Barbudans once again have access to enhanced healthcare services after a fully equipped and rehabilitated Hannah Thomas Hospital was handed over to the Barbuda Council today. Under the leadership of the Government of Antigua & Barbuda, the project, funded by the India-UN Development Partnership Fund reconstructed the severely damaged hospital and provided equipment to improve patient care within the community.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) implemented the project, utilizing a $1M contribution from India through the Fund, using ‘Build Back Better’ principles to ensure greater structural resilience and inclusive access.

In September 2017, Hurricane Irma significantly damaged the hospital, removing most of the roof, destroying the structure and significantly reducing the availability of medical services. UNDP Head of Office in Antigua and Barbuda, Mellissa Johnson, in her address noted, “we extend our gratitude to all stakeholders who played a pivotal role in seeing this project come to fruition”.

Managed by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, the India-UN Fund has been working rapidly to position support for projects that respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. In Antigua and Barbuda, the India-UN Fund is providing an additional $1M, on top of the hurricane relief, to strengthen national health capacities and address the negative impacts of COVID-19 on the economy.

Speaking on the importance of the hospital to the Barbudan community, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Honourable Molwyn Joseph stated, “the Ministry of Health requested the support of PAHO to redesign the Hannah Thomas Hospital, so you are getting a hospital designed by experts”.

  1. HYPOCRITE Trevor Walker…Foul Mouth Trevor Walker…AWFUL GUY.
Trevor Walker does NOT like BARBUDANS. I heard some BAD WORDS out of Trevor Walker Mouth. Trevor should be EXPELLED from preaching What a Guy !!!!

Great Job Hon.Gaston Browne…..Man of CLASS.Very DISTNGUISHED Prime Minister.

    • Jus keep in mind the Trevor Walker guy is no longer credible. He need salvation. He need to be born again and filled with the Holy Ghost. And he should clean up his mouth. There are believers and there are make believers and there are fake believers. I will not judge, but you don’t get bad fruit from a good tree.

      • Gwen, my dear. You have it bad for this Christian thing. It is not natural. Are you under self-inflicted punishment for something very bad that you did? Your over holiness is showing. You sound like a serial God freak.
Jesus is a very forgiving man. He understands the heart of man and his reaction when provoked to anger. Remember how he exploded in the temple?
Take it easy, Gwen. You too holy, holy.

  2. Well done to majority of officials & builders wearing masks correctly!
Remember! Cover your mouth AND NOSE!
