Barbudans Being Encouraged To Insure Their Homes

2

The Cabinet says it has asked the Minister of Barbuda Affairs to write to the Barbuda Representative in Parliament about insurance for owner-occupied reconstructed-homes on the sister isle.

Except for insurance against loss of household items, the government claims no homes in Barbuda were insured against hurricanes.

“Fearing that another hurricane could cause significant damage to homes at any time, the Cabinet determined that it would encourage all homeowners to purchase insurance.”

The government said a special arrangement is to be worked-out with State Insurance Limited; that arrangement may see a subsidy applied, in order to make coverage on Barbuda more affordable.

The Cabinet also encouraged homeowners in Antigua to purchase insurance against hurricanes and other calamities.

  1. Why do they need to insure their homes? Someone will donate money to fix it for free while they “loaf” at a hotel or shelter and then bite the hands that feed them.

  2. Id State Insurance is so crazy to go and insure these homes, they better pray to God for no hurricane to hit them in the next 20 years, because where will they find 200 million to cover the claims.
I mean no underwriter would take that risk. And it will be a great risk.
