(Press Release)

Veronica Feracho of Codrington was convicted and fined $6,000 for Possession of Cannabis in the St. John’s Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. She appeared before Chief Magistrate Walsh jointly charged with Devon Mackintosh of Buckleys with Possession of Cannabis, Possession with intent to sell and Being Concerned with the supply of Controlled Drugs. Feracho was found guilty and was fined $6,000.

She was ordered to pay $3,000 forthwith and the remaining balance by the end of October. Failing to do so, she would be sentenced to nine months at Her Majesty’s Prison. The other charges against her were withdrawn, as well as those against McIntosh.

The Court heard that in April of this year, Feracho sent a pound of Cannabis among a package with fish from Barbuda to Antigua aboard the ferry. The package, which later arrived at the Heritage Quay Pier, was picked up by McIntosh. Members of the police K-9 Unit, who were on duty at the time, became suspicious of his actions, and held on to him and the package.

A search was carried out on the package and Cannabis was found hidden inside the fish. The drug was seized and he was taken into custody. Further investigations into the matter led the police to Feracho, and she was subsequently arrested and charged.
