Barbuda International Airport marked a milestone as it welcomed its first international flight—a Gulfstream G650ER arriving mid-morning Friday from Teterboro Airport, New Jersey.

This marks the airport’s first direct arrival from outside the region and the United States. The plane is set to depart for West Palm Beach, Florida, later in the afternoon.

This arrival is celebrated as a significant advancement just weeks after the facility’s official commissioning on October 3, following the completion of its first phase. Future phases will include the construction of a new terminal and an extended runway.

  1. This is a proud moment in our history. Although lots more work needs to be done to ensure that Barbuda reaches its full potential, this is definitely a move in the right direction.

The Chief Immigration Officer should be terminated immediately for saying that Barbuda will have am international flight on Friday.

The Chief Immigration Officer ought to know that the flight MUST land in Antigua before going to Barbuda.

There can be NO direct flight to Barbuda unless it is an emergency landing.

The Chief Immigration Officer should be removed Immediately for misleading the public. And her lack of very basic airport regulations.

  3. I lived in Teaneck NJ many moons ago.I have flown out of Teterboro Airport on a Private Jet.It is not a Commercial Airport. It is only serviced by Private Jets.So if Private Jets do fly into Barbuda directly.Does that make it an International Airport? What is the criteria for an International Airport?

  4. @BLACK MAN: One of the main definitions of an international airport is an airport that has border controls/customs that allows travel between countries. Some standards to define an international airport are set by two different international agencies, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Air Transport Association (ICAO).

Teterboro airport in New Jersey has a customs/immigration area manned by Customs and Border Patrol staff but is not classified as an international airport for some reason (I suspect that is because it’s a general aviation airport with no commercial traffic).

  5. John Mussington says the airport was build only to facilitate the Rich that come to Barbuda. In a way he is correct, but the same time it will benefit the ordinary Antiguans and Barbudans that want to catch a flight to Barbuda once the commercial airlines starting to fly to Barbuda. I guess VC Bird International was not just build for Antiguans either. The hundreds and thousands of tourists that are visiting are not Antiguans.
But be hopeful for the day an Antigua and Barbudan is rich enough to buy their own airplane and fly to Barbuda. I must say this guy John Mussington refuses to accept the Privy Council ruling that the lands of Barbuda are Crowns Land. He keeps holding to the myth that it was given to them by the Condingtrons. Very sad situation.
