New Barbuda Airport Runway

Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed the Barbuda airport project is nearly done, expressing optimism about its timely completion after a recent facility tour.

He anticipates it will be ready for traffic by the end of this month or the first week of December.

The airport’s opening aligns with the Barbuda Ocean Club project and the winter tourism season.

Browne emphasized its significance in accommodating 200 guests in December, and the government is committed to a prompt opening.

In a legal battle, Jacklyn Frank and John Mussington challenge government agencies, particularly the Development Control Authority, alleging unlawful permits for the new Barbuda airport runway.

They cite non-compliance with regulations, including incomplete environmental impact assessments and plans lacking Barbuda Council approval.

Lawyers must convince Privy Council judges of their right to challenge the government, with a verdict expected soon.

  1. Antigua & Barbuda operate an international airport which is regulated by international Rules & Regulations. Its ability to operate legally will depend on the final authorizations which must consider the results of the Privy Council’s decision.
Private aircraft will not risk their high-end passengers if there are any lingering safety and other concerns. Further ECCAA as the local Regulator must be fully satisfied that the airport is safe for activity.
The people of the island do not matter to the politicians whose pockets will be well greased, and the rich owners care even less, once they have enough maids, cooks and gardeners. Barbuda returns to slaving for a living.

  2. Should this airport be opened, does that mean Barbuda is now a Port of Entry?
As we await a Privy Council decision, one can expect an injunction to be filed against the opening of this airport.

  3. What shamelessness!
Must someones give in, no matter the consequences, just for the for the demands of another’s whim?
We Henrys are generally smart, strong, morally ethical people.
Praying that the chain will not be broken through puppetry.
