The government assures that work on Barbuda’s airport will continue despite a Privy Council ruling favoring residents Jacquline Frank and John Mussington, allowing them to challenge Development Control Authority approvals.
Officials confirmed the arrival of pipelines for potable water to the new airport, which will run from the River area.
The Privy Council reversed the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal’s decision from last November.
Dr. David Dorsette stated in a state media interview that the airport is nearing completion, and it remains to be seen what the claimants will do.
He acknowledged that not all details were perfect in the airport’s construction, but it is almost ready for operation.
UK Attorney Leslie Thomas KC, representing Frank and Mussington, plans to challenge the government to disclose the Environmental Impact Assessment for the airport. The next legal step includes a trial review in Antigua.

Surprise, Surprise, the ABLP circumventing the law when it goes against them.
CAN WE CIRCUMVENT THE LAW ALSO?
#absolutejokersthelotofthem
…Whatever happened to the rule of law?
It seems like CROOKS are wearing suits nowadays!
Did the privy council put a stay on the project? The privy council only ruled that the two individuals have standing in the matter. So without an injunction the project continues.
Oooohhhh really GASSY thinks he’s above the privy council…… and he says goes despite what the Privy ruled
Ok bully Gaston ah you dat
Barbudans need to block up the construction site
Gaston ah play defiant ok
One thing you can guarantee @ worst PM, the courageous Barbudan’s won’t sit back and allow this LAW BREAKING by this atrocious government.
Watch this space … the ABLP has opened up a whole can of worms!!!
Me too wanna fence in a piece of land in antigua and me cant get to do it. Or ne need to go over barbuda to do it? If i go over can i fence in piece? Asking for the antiguans who have to have money to buy dem land to live on. I think i live in Antigua & Barbuda.
Oh man!! When the law doesn’t suit you.. do as you please! Alright!! Let’s all do as we please and see what happens. #lawlesssociety#
Some people can barely read, much more understand. Some people, you have to read and spell for them. And some people can’t read but ‘run dem mouth like parrot,’ only repeating what other people say. Some people need to just hush and watch and learn. Me, I’m watching from the sidelines.
The barbudans need to file an injunction now to stop the construction.
Nothing’s going to happen. The Gov of Antigua will continue with its plans. A handful of Barbudans will make the effort to protest, but there won’t be enough of them and the Barbuda Council will be paid off, so they won’t care. Business as usual.
@ jalepo, so it’s OK that Antigua & Barbuda “sleeps walk” slowly into a one party state?
WE ALL (NOT JUST BARBUDANS) MUST STAND UP FOR WHAT’S RIGHT AND NOT WRONG DOING.
If the rule of law is ignored by those in government, it doesn’t bode well for law abiding citizens l – can’t you see that?
When the law is one-sided it frustrates and can create a physical and mental depression , that’s why you have have wars, North Korea vs South Korea, Russia vs Ukraine, Barbuda vs Gaston.
Is not everbody tolerate oppression it starts war when its overbearing
@ jalepo
Nutten go so. Not even in your dreams.
The handful of Barbudans attorneys make the Antigua attorneys like like little boys.
Now that with Barbudans experience some success Antiguans will watch the next court hearing.
PLH will be asking GOAB to indemnify them. Wait and see.
There is a question that is just begging to be asked. It is this.
In a small place like Barbuda, why the need for 2 airports? Was it considered to just upgrade the present airport? Why the need to have another one separate from the present one? Is it that something will be done at the new one that cannot be done at the present one once it is upgraded?
The impression given is that upgrading the present airport was never considered. Why? Is there something that should go on at the new airport that we should not know about? Or the people using the new airport are not to mix with the ones using the present airport?
And will the new airport have its own immigration, police, customs officers, etc, completely separate from the national services?
This is so suspicious.
After Dorsett performed so embarrassingly weak in front of the Law Lords at the Privy Council hearing, resulting in a lost case.
He has a lot of chat now, continuing the stupid line of argument that he attempted to use at the Privy Council.
It’s very obvious that Mussington and Frank seek to stop the airport from opening of the airport consistent with their original goals.
Any reasonable person should expect that the Barbudans will pursue their case against GOAB.
Why wouldn’t they now that they have been granted standing. What would be the purpose of suing the Government.
The GOAB intends to open the Airport and the Barbudans will bring an injunction against the GOAB.
So if it ever opens it will not be for long. It will not be the first time a brand new airport was not allowed to open.
The Attorney General of Antigua as the chief lawyer, member of the British Chamber, with the distinguished title of Sir , and member of the Cabinet have a duty to advise the Prime Minister to accept the decision of the Privy Council as the highest court for the commonwealth.. After doing such if the Prime Minister decides to go against the ruling of the court of last resort he , the Attorney General would have carried out his duty .To do nothing he should be disbarred from the Chamber and the practice of law in the commonwealth.
@Myron Reynolds,
Smart people are not always realistic. No offense, by it may apply to many including myself and yourself. I hope I’m not being to hash.
It’s the Antigua and Barbuda peoples money in the form of taxes and benign neglect, that will be paying and covering the costs for this travesty.
Antigua attorneys are costly; while the Barbudans attorneys are working pro Bono.
The Attorney General has referred to the Barbudans success to date as possible Pyrrhic, a term intended to cast their efforts of Frank and Mussington as one that’s going to bite them in their asses at the end.
Any other Attorney General would advise his or her boss to salvage this thing as best as they can; this is not winnable.
Why? Mussington and Frank have a global community behind them, and attorneys who are willing to take on the challenge of their clients to the very end. This case has global implications. Think SIDS.
That end could very likely be the upturn of everything that PLH has done on Barbuda.
A lot of people got paid in legal fees and other things of value. They can’t afford to do what you and others might think is the right thing. A deal is a deal.
And we wonder why crime is out of control here in Antigua? The leader is just a dumb, lawbreaking knucklehead. We have to remove this clown from our highest office that he continues to abuse.
Barbuda, file the injunction NOW. This jackass is leading us down a deep abyss with his greed and give aways to the white man or the China man.
The biggest error ever was re-electing this idiot.
@ Why not upgrade the present airport?
That would have been the smart thing to do. It’s surrounded by a horse race track, a cemetery, and goat pens.
But here is why:
The current Barbuda airport is on the edges of an increasing expanding Codrington. Many Barbudans and intrepid visitors walk to and from Codrington airport. That trek in foot or by vehicle exposes expose the life and conditions Barbudans
The billionaires and the millionaires would need to drive through and witness the benign neglect of Barbuda.
They would see all the structures that were damaged by Irma and remained in a derelict state. They would be choked by the dusty roads as the navigate the craters.
PLH or The Gaston Brown Government don’t want billionaires to see that part of Barbuda.
The sites chosen for the PLH airport is on pristine grounds and surroundings
of untouched areas with a high water table that feeds the aqufiers that are the source of Barbudans portable.
New backroads have been built to wisk the billionaires and millionaires to the golf course moment they arrive.
That’s among the many amenities that PLH sold their purchasers.
Not having this newly built airport in operation means that PLH could be sued big time, for both false advertising and false and misleading claims.
PLH is already having issues among the development partners and this may sink them yet.
Well highlighted once again @ Barbuda J’aime – I could listen to you all day. Marvellous 👍🏾
The Attorney General had a lot to say about The Barbudans win at the Privy Council.
As the Attorney General and Dr. Dorsett embark on their media rounds; they make naive statements and assumptions and feed it to the un-read Antigua and Barbuda public.
Dr Dorsett: “The Airport is not leprosy that needs to be removed”
In making such an assertion, it reminds me of Dr. Dorsett failing arguments in front of the Privy Council. Yet again he presents his failing arguments as to why the airport is not like leprosy.
He is either that stupid, or he is convinced Antigua and Barbuda people don’t read.
It is worse than leprosy. Dr. Dorsett! Should it not be removed, and the site remediated; the result will be the permanent contamination of Barbuda all on behalf of some millionaires and billionaires.
Barbudan lands in that area where the airport is built, supports its underground aquifers and it’s seafood spurning grounds in the South, especially the lagoon.
Those are the reasons why the Eastern Caribbean Aviation Authorities should never approve the permit and the site cleaned up and restored. Should the approval be granted then they too will be brought into future lawsuits.
The airport was built illegally. Period! To remediate the site requires that be dismantled under the supervision of a licensed remediation expert.
Word of advice to Dr. Dorsett: “It’s worse than leprosy, Dr. Dorset”. The fact that you use such an analogy, illustrates your level of naivete. The Barbudans are going back to Court, now that they were ruled to have standing; so be prepared to dance them around the local Courts again, and them your clients final wiping at the Privy Council
As for the attorney General: His use of the terminology. maybe a ” pyrrhic victory” is telling in many ways. Either he is fooling himself or he attempting to fool those who willing to accept his words.
Word to the Attorney general: The Barbudans have the facts on their sides.
Then they have the legal fire power to out match GOAB. A restraining order or its equivalent comes next to stop any work or activity on the airport except for a remediation of the damages.
Beyond that will be the complete removal, remediation of the site, and damage assessment.
Among the tragedy, is that Antiguan and Barbudan taxpayers will be paying for this folly.
Very interesting conversation here. I see a trend. Righteousness always prevails. I support Barbudians.
Corruption has prevailed for too too long. One of the main reasons is that the moral orbiters has been in bed with the ALBP
It is immoral and ungodly for the churches who witnesses the advantage being taken; pray with the victims every Saturday and Sunday, and then pray over Gaston and his Cabinet on Tuesdays.
