The Nut Grove man, who snatched the bag of a female visitor and that of a local woman on Boxing Day, was convicted in the Court on Thursday.
Sammy Harris appeared in St. Johns Magistrate Court before Chief Magistrate Walsh, charged with two counts of Larceny.
He pleaded guilty and was convicted and fined $1,000 forthwith on each count, or six months in prison.
The Nut Grove convict was apprehended by several locals, who were on the beach at the time he stole the bags with several valuable items and cash from the visitor and a female lifeguard on Tuesday.
He was handed over to the police and was charged.
