Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin Nominated for National Honor by Constituents

Steadroy "Cutie" Benjamin, Attorney General

Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin’s potential knighthood for Independence Day has been linked to his constituents’ nomination rather than the government’s endorsement.

A letter acquired by the Daily Observer references a petition supported by over 50 constituents, recognizing Benjamin’s significant contributions as the Member of Parliament for St John’s City South.

It lauds his 38-year parliamentary career, hailing his role in reshaping the legal framework of Antigua and Barbuda, where he is acknowledged as a leading Attorney General in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The letter underscores his community development initiatives and instrumental role in regional educational advancements.

  1. This man has done absolutely NOTHING to deserve a knighthood. All he does is talk and make promises and then do NOTHING. Adlai Smith described him perfectly in his calypso with the words “two tongue in he mouth”. Knighthood my backside. National awards have become a joke.

    • I believe Brixtonian did NOT receive His Senate Appointment when He was with ABLP. He jumped to UPP where He is not trusted. As someone mentioned, Brixtonian is an opportunist. Sorry Brixtonian no Senate seat for you.

  2. “Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin’s potential knighthood for Independence Day has been linked to his constituents’ nomination rather than the government’s endorsement”.

OF COURES THE AG WAS ENDORSED BY GASTON BROWNE 🥸 AND HIS CABINET MEMBERS; IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING, OR THEY WOULD NOT HIGHLIGHT THIS IN THE FIRST INSTANCE! DUH!!!

These politicians really take us Antiguans for damn fools.

DAMN SELF-SERVING, SELF-ENRICHED CRETINS, DEM NA CARE ‘BOUT WE …

    • @BRIXTONIAN..I shall now NOMINATE you as the most STUPID ,DUMB and UNINTELLIGENT Person in Antigua / Barbuda. Your narratives are so OUTRAGEOUS that even UPP members are talking about you in a NEGATIVE way.
I shall talk to TROY ALLEN to enroll you in YEEP. BRIXTONIAN needs help. You jumped from ABLP to UPP .NO ONE in UPP trust You. You are an OPPPORTUNIST and BROWNE NOSE. BRIXTONIAN is a fake. Stupid AR****SE. Get a life you LOWLIFE.

      • PETE, how you sensitive so?

Don’t blame me because you can’t see the woods for the trees, regarding how you have been hoodwinked by 40-odd worthless years of Birdism and Browneism; and you’ve just realised that NO real progress has been made in those decades to benefit country.

IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY JUST KEEP VOTING FOR THE SAME OLD SAME OLD ACTION-LESS ABLP, WHILST THE SENSIBLE ANTIGUANS WORK FOR CHANGE.

Remember, freedom of speech is a BLESSING in disguise …✊🏾

        • P.S. @ PETE, I bet you are LOOKING forward to Prime Minister Browne DANCING ABROAD again – in the not too future – to deal with international affairs, instead of DANCING AT HOME to deal with the numerous issues in Antigua 🇦🇬

Look in the mirror📱, and you’ll SEE the REAL problems as to why Gassssston is still in office …

      • Hey @ RUPERT, let me correct you sir or madam 😁, when you say I’m an “opportunist”; I think you meant to say “REALIST”.

        Thank me later 👍🏾

  3. So how come ovals look so?
Mr. Benjamin take a walk through ovals! Tell me what you see?👀
Ovals use to be a upper middle class neighborhood, it has become a total ghetto!
These politicians have what some of us refer to as gall and nerve
    They have no shame whatsoever!
    Trupz!!

  4. Funny they want to give knighthood to someone who was supposedly doing what he went to parliament to do and was paid to do. Tells you that Antigua is a place where good and outstanding citizens are lacking. Only scoundrels abound.

  5. I am all for giving our nations highest honour and recognition to deserved citizens. But we seem to think that only Politicians deserve this recognition. Having served as an MP for 38 years alone is not enough in my view. We degrade the true value of knighthood by handing it out willy-nilly. There need to be proper guidelines, directive and standard as we seek to nominate citizens for our country’s highest honour.

  6. Benjamin some argue has done nothing but his constituents for the past 30 years have resoundingly ensured he is there to represent them. There are many households who will tell you how he has assisted family members with getting jobs, plus free legal assistance. He was instrumental in helping the former residents of what was called Fibrey, get better accommodations. During his stint as AG, there is no other AG who can point to not only the legislative accomplishments Benjamin has, but also the cases he has helped ensure government won. First family court in the region, established under his watch A&B has had the least murders than it had between 2004 and 2014 and is considered one of the safest islands in the region: “Yes. The island of Antigua is one of the safest choices you can find for your Caribbean dream vacation! The small island has a fairly low crime rate, especially when compared to other islands in the Caribbean.” see travellersworldwide.com . Being human he is not perfect but you have to be bitter/blind to doubt his accomplishments.

    • These awards have become so watered-down, they as well give knighthoods to Bowlface, Macumay and Bamby posthumously. They are all more deserving than Cutie and Molwyn.

  7. He is too controversial to be awarded a knighthood , plain and simple. As someone said knighthood has been watered down .
My first recollection of someone receiving a knighthood was Sir. Garfield Sobers. Cannot remember the date but remember him kneeling before the queen. Cricket was everything to me and to us I may say as a Caribbean people. Sir. Gary Sobers was our king , he was the epitome of greatness.
Today most of the independent Caribbean countries have adopted these titles and bestow them on citizens they feel worthy. So to me Sir. Gary Sobers ( Garfield ) was the perfect choice. Later Barbados made him a national Hero .
The independent Barbados bestowed national hero to singer Rhianna recently. To me she was undeserving.
Independent Antigua has bestowed knighthood on too many undeserving people , especially politicians that it has become so water down.
Similarly Cutie Benjiman has no credentials for Antigua to bestow a knighthood on him – not nearly. Of almost everyone that has been given this water down accolade he will be the most undeserving.

  8. Yes he reshaped the Port Authority laws for the acquisition of the Alfa Nero. Will go down in history for rushing that law through parliament despite the opposition whom he insulted as not in the class of this grandson, imploring him to let’s take our time in dealing with this matter.
Let me see if Antiguans are really going to be partisan and allow Cutie Benjiman to be knighted.

  9. You get knighted these days if you do the bidding of Gaston Brown. Robin and Molwyn are prime examples. No one should be suprised. That is the performance criteria.
When given the chance to introduce legislation so that an Independant Antiguan and Barbudan can pledge alligience to its Constitution. What did Cutie Benjamin say: This is not the time.
Cutie benjamin selfishness knows no bounds
Of course, not until he gets his knighthood. Then and only then, the Pleadge Alliagence can be changed.
KNIGHTHOOD FIRST: for it comes from the King to whom we pledge alligience.
Think about it. The Attorney General, Cabinet Member of Parliment and the country’s top lawman; puts his self-aggrandisement infront of a pledge of alligience to the country’s Constitution and the laws that are derived from that Constitution
