Attorney Arthur Thomas Sworn in as ABEC Chairman, Succeeding John Jarvis

Attorney Arthur Thomas was sworn in as the new Chairman of ABEC today at 9:00 am at the Government House, succeeding John Jarvis, who passed away in office.

Thomas, a founding partner of Thomas John & Weste, has a distinguished career. He began as a sole practitioner at Thomas & Co. from April 1996 to December 1996 and later worked as an associate at Simon and Associates, St. John’s Antigua, from 1991 to 1996. His areas of expertise include civil litigation, corporate consultancy, land law, intellectual property, banking and securities law, insurance and industrial law, and probate.

In addition to his legal practice, Thomas is the managing director of Corporate and Trust Services (Caribbean) Ltd., which offers offshore company formation, administration and management, trust services, ship registration, residency, immigration consultancy, and bank introduction services.

Thomas has a long list of professional achievements. He served as President of the Optimist Club of St. John’s – Antigua from 1992 to 1993, and from 1994 to 2000, he was a Board Member of the Medical Benefits Board of Control. He also served as Lieutenant Governor of Optimist International Jamaica District from 1995 to 1996.

 

From 1995 to 2002, Thomas was President, Director, and Shareholder of Industry and Commerce Insurance Company, overseeing the company’s operations. He also served as a Member of the Public Service Commission from 1996 to 2004.

 

Additionally, Thomas has held various positions in organizations such as the Rotary Club of Antigua, where he was a Member and Club Director from 1999 to 2020, serving as President in 2008/9. He was also Registrar of the Anglican Diocese of The North Eastern Caribbean & Aruba from 1999 to 2011, Chairman of the Prison Visiting Committee from 2000 to 2004, and Honorary Consul to the Czech Republic from 2009 to 2014.

 

Thomas is a Notary Public of Antigua and Barbuda since 1997, a Justice of the Peace since 2000, and served as Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Constituencies Boundaries Commission from 1998 to 1999.

 

Furthermore, Thomas has been a member of the International Association of Gaming Attorneys since 2009, Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of The North Eastern Caribbean & Aruba since 2011, Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Health and Fitness Club Inc. t/a Antigua Athletic Club from 2011 to 2020, Chairman of the Antigua National Parks Authority since 2015, Deputy Chairman of the Caribbean Union Bank since 2016, and Director of Jolly Beach Resort since 2017.
