CABINET NOTES: The APUA again repeated that the Water Division is a “loss leader”; in other words, it does not make a profit.
The subsidy provided in 2024 totaled $27 million.
At some point, the revenue from water is to be increased.

I guess after the water 💧 rate increase, I’m sure we we get water 💦 more regular than how we getting it now…
If water revenue is to be increased, I hope the government provides clear communication about the reasons behind the decision and how it will benefit the community.
While an increase in water revenue might be necessary for maintaining and improving infrastructure, it’s important to ensure that the rates remain affordable for households. Transparency about how the additional funds will be used would go a long way in gaining public support.
At least have the decency to wait — & raise the rate AFTER water is sufficiently being provided
to everyone. Poor people have suffered enough!
Maybe work on guaranteeing and supplying government water 24 hours a day 7 days a week 52 weeks a year. The sheer arrogance to think about increasing water rates when they can’t even supply water for a week continuously, when they shut off water for weeks. How ignorant and incapable and the foolish notion there needs to be an increase. APUA needs to put their house 8 order before asking customers for anything. Right now all they deserve is ridicule, derision and insults
Increase water rates? That must mean water 24/7
With all the increasing of this and that how about an increase for seniors and workers? Have you the government started paying into social security?
For my entire lifetime, we have suffered immensely from inadequate public water supply. The vast majority of Antiguans know that if we do not have our own water catchment facility like a drum or a tank, some of us might might not have a bath for weeks. It is more than full time for us to get a reliable supply of water throughout the country. I spent 6 months in Aruba, a country that depends 100 percent on desalinated water, and not once was the water supply restricted.
So before we can entertain any discussion about rate increase, fix the darn water problem once and for all.
Fixing the water problem was an election promise, it’s been years, now it seems like we the people is going to do it by dipping deeper into our pockets 😡
