Astaphan Urges ABLP to Counter Misinformation Ahead of Next Election
Senior Counsel Tony Astaphan says the Gaston Browne administration must actively counter misinformation if it hopes to secure an unprecedented fourth term in office.
He argued that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) should focus on promoting its achievements — including road upgrades, the return of LIAT, the development of the West Indies Oil Company, new polyclinics, the UWI Five Islands Campus, and improvements in water production.
Astaphan added that ABLP members, supporters, and radio hosts need to be equipped with facts to challenge opposition claims.

In the 2023 election, the ABLP narrowly retained power with nine of 17 seats, compared to six for the United Progressive Party (UPP), one for the Barbuda People’s Movement, and one for independent candidate Asot Michael. This was a sharp decline from 2018, when the UPP secured just one seat.

Both parties need to get out ahead of the counter narrative of each party. Each party should stick to truth and not just try to bury the other party.
You really do have something to protect.
A loss at the polls for tge ABLP would also be a loss for you.
You want everything done to secure your freedom.
You are known for giving poor advice.
Thats why you do not want to be on the other side. Well, there is an antidote for the ABLP.
I think it is called Harold Lovell.
I got news for you.
With Richard Lewis fully on the side of Harold Lovell the ABLP is on its way out.
The people of Antigua are tired of ABLP and it’s corruption.
With all the programs you hilighted show me which ones the people can say is benefitting them.
The roads are not coming from positive policies. The people are paying through their teeth.
Have you forgotten that the government chose to tax the people to repair the roads.
Adtaphan has to secure his bread and butter, should UPP win he gone, he will even pray to the devil to keep Gaston around. Mother fu***ng scoundrel
Achievements? Which roads? Which water? People are still catching hell for basic services. They can’t spin their way into another term.
Tony is right. The government has done a lot that people forget about. Roads, UWI campus, clinics, those things matter and need to be communicated better.
How much more counter attack they need. Anything else will be overkill
@ Graham,
Isn’t it ironic that this master of misinformation is suggesting that the ABLP administration must actively counter misinformation.
What misinformation is he talking about?
Water! Is this guy for real? Many places in Antigua is still not getting water consistently and soon you’ll be paying through your nose for water.
Roads! What roads is he talking about the one where we are paying ahead higher vehicle taxes before we get the roads.
LIAT! The 70/30 deal that Chet Greene signed. Only fools will think they gave 70% of LIAT to the African and nothing for and n.
Tell the people of Sea View Farm they have a new poly clinic.
That man should keep out of Antigua politics and stick to his country’s for he sound like Donald Trump
Does Astsphan wants Gaston to counter
Meta the owner of Facebook which has permitted its AI chatbots to “engage a child in a conversation that’s romantic or sensual,” according to an internal document that lays out rules of how its bots should interact with people, Reuters reported.
The Facebook and Instagram-owner also allows its generative AI assistant, Meta AI, to generate and supply false information, create violent imagery of elders and children and spin up content that argues that “Black people are dumber than white people.”
In response to the report, Meta removed portions of its policies that allowed its chatbots to flirt and engage in romantic roleplay with children; but not the The Black People are dumb portion.
The Facebook you all live so much
Part of the ABLP achievements, is that they have usher in the worse crime status in Antigua’s history, where they even manage to silence one of their descendants in Asot.
So is that fact, the misinformation you’re talking about? It’s a general consensus that this ABLP government doesn’t have a clue about crime fighting. Are you calling the voting public liars?
This fool needs to keep quiet with bias opinions.
Well? Well! Harold Lovell energized the place and cause Gaston to call out his goons miss wickams and now astaphan the Lebanese who will always get pay from ALP because he married to v.c bird grand daughter.
These are some low bars that is said to be achievement. Roads shouldn’t be celebrated only reason it’s an issue because it was allowed to get so back because lack of maintenance and if when it happened they just throw asphalt in the hole and not doing it properly, the main roads the redid will forever need patching unless they learn to have proper run off and drainage when designing roads.
Clinics should always be maintained and keep up to standards even opening new branches as communities expand. That’s the job of the government not a big milestone if they wasn’t neglected. Like the housing projects you build new communities, you should also plan and build infrastructure to support them, like a clinic. But I am curious if I look up the history of the clinics. How old will some of these buildings be?
There is a lot more criticism that can be said about what they did the rise of import duties, ABST, water and electricity rates and other fees directly increase the cost of living. That’s why we have such inequality, people have to pay more bills with the same salary from a decade ago.
Also I’m tired of seeing homeless people on the street how come we have no homeless shelter for homeless people when we love tourism so much and care about Antigua look but yet we have how much old people sleeping on the streets some of them been there since I was in primary school and new people popping up all over.
As many of us know, this one-eyed myopic clown Astaphan has family links to the Bird dynasty, so anything that comes out of his distorted mout’ is always going to favour the ABLP, and especially Gaston Browne.
I wish that the same fuss and kerfuffle was being made about the the rising crime wavev instead of the re-entry of the Honourable Harold Lovell into our politics. If it were, then many of us would be glad that crime prevention was finally being addressed.
But oh no, Astaphan and his ilk are making so much noise about a man returning to the political arena.
Talk about politicians (and former ones) getting their priorities totally wrong for the country.
How did Antigua end up with so many out of touch and wayward people in authority?
Astaphan talks about misinformation, but does the ABLP always tell the whole truth themselves?
How is it that Harold Lovell is a spent shell yet ABLP leadership has to bring out their Dominican Mercenary to try and contain him, are you admitting the Licksplittlers with their lies and innuendos are not effective enough. Fear is a helluva thing
The Weasel has employment only when the ALP is in governance and only in situations like these he actually does anything for his hefty salary. Why doesn’t he go to the UNITED KINGDOM for a vacation? I’m sure he hasn’t been there in decades.
I would have never expected Garold Lovell returning to politics would be so unsettling to the ALBP community.
They are really afraid of him, and that says alot.
First comes the ALBP crumb-snachers on ANR comments.
Now we have the Parasite and chief information agent weighing in.
And what is the “One Eye Bandit talking about countering misinformation. Could anything be more ironic.
LIAT!
Is he talking about The 70/30 deal that Chet Greene signed in Lagos.
Only fools will think they gave 70% of LIAT to the African, including LIAT Hanger; and nothing for them.
Is that the misinformation ASTAPHAN the parasite wants to be highlighted.
