Astaphan Urges ABLP to Counter Misinformation Ahead of Next Election

Senior Counsel Tony Astaphan says the Gaston Browne administration must actively counter misinformation if it hopes to secure an unprecedented fourth term in office.

He argued that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) should focus on promoting its achievements — including road upgrades, the return of LIAT, the development of the West Indies Oil Company, new polyclinics, the UWI Five Islands Campus, and improvements in water production.

Astaphan added that ABLP members, supporters, and radio hosts need to be equipped with facts to challenge opposition claims.

In the 2023 election, the ABLP narrowly retained power with nine of 17 seats, compared to six for the United Progressive Party (UPP), one for the Barbuda People’s Movement, and one for independent candidate Asot Michael. This was a sharp decline from 2018, when the UPP secured just one seat.

  1. Both parties need to get out ahead of the counter narrative of each party. Each party should stick to truth and not just try to bury the other party.

  2. You really do have something to protect.
A loss at the polls for tge ABLP would also be a loss for you.
You want everything done to secure your freedom.
You are known for giving poor advice.
Thats why you do not want to be on the other side. Well, there is an antidote for the ABLP.
I think it is called Harold Lovell.
    I got news for you.
With Richard Lewis fully on the side of Harold Lovell the ABLP is on its way out.
The people of Antigua are tired of ABLP and it’s corruption.
With all the programs you hilighted show me which ones the people can say is benefitting them.
The roads are not coming from positive policies. The people are paying through their teeth.
Have you forgotten that the government chose to tax the people to repair the roads.

  3. Adtaphan has to secure his bread and butter, should UPP win he gone, he will even pray to the devil to keep Gaston around. Mother fu***ng scoundrel

  4. Achievements? Which roads? Which water? People are still catching hell for basic services. They can’t spin their way into another term.

  5. Tony is right. The government has done a lot that people forget about. Roads, UWI campus, clinics, those things matter and need to be communicated better.
