An accumulative amount of around $50,000 has gone missing from the accounts of customers who bank at the Police Cooperative Credit Union (PCCU).
The PCCU, located at the Police Headquarters on American Road, serves both police officers and civilians.
Now, an investigation is ongoing where a senior sergeant at the Johnson’s Point Police Station has been given the task.
It is believe that over a period of time, thousands of dollars had been transferred among customers’ accounts and were later withdrawn by a civilian loans officer.
At least five people were victims of this illicit activity, but it is not clear whether the affected customers were all police officers.
The alleged perpetrator, who has worked at the Police Credit Union for about four years, was kept in police custody for two days after investigations were launched into the missing funds.
Ordinarily, the investigation would have been conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Although the unnamed officer is trained in Financial Investigation, police sources argue that he was not given the position because of his skills. They allege that the officer was hand-picked by the President of the PCCU, who played a part in recruiting the accused.
The President, who is also a member of the Police Service Commission (PSC), is off island and could not be reached to defend her position.
And, despite calls to the manager of the PCCU on Sunday August 25th 2019, the Corporal could not be reached for comment.

How can they have a police officer investigating a police matter? Shouldn’t this be done by a private investigator? Few years ago, it was drugs missing from a holding container at the Police Headquarters, and now large sum of money missing from the same location. I am waiting to hear the outcome of this investigation since no finding has ever publish on the missing drugs.

That’s why the President did not want certain persons on the Credit Union staff and campaigned to get them out and vote in a new President and Manager. Even hand picking someone to investigate this matter is wrong. The president should not get involved unless when questioned by investigators
The Commissioner needs to step in because it is Police Credit Union. There are Finincial investigators (not police) in Antigua who can investigation the matter. What has happen to the FFIRC (or something like that) that body suppose to overlook all financial bodies.
Not only the Credit Union but the Police Welfare Association, Police Sports Fund, Police Week Fund and by extension the Police Force including the Fire Department need a thorough, thorough investigation.

I agreed that the police should not investigate a police matter. The investigator should come from a private entity or the Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC) for example.

This is unfair that no charges will be brought for stealing just because of the individuals involved indirectly or indirectly. If it were some other Police Offices who are not favoured by a God mother or God father they would have been arrested already and scandalized. That Force is full of friend and company. Those perpetrators will be promoted inspite of what they did and hard working people are left behind because they don’t carry news to certain persons.
Those persons who do not want to press charges must remembered God does not sleep and karma is a pitch like them.
