CABINET NOTES
The Cabinet undertook a review of the impact of the storm, Fiona.
It resulted in the closure of schools and the cancellation of classes last Friday, September 16, 2022, and impacted electricity and water supply on Saturday and Sunday, 17 and 18 September 2022.
The Minister responsible for APUA gave a report indicating that no APUA employee/linesman was injured during the 48 hours passage of the storm, although the technicians were busy reconnecting electricity lines following high winds and downpours of rain.
All APUA electricity customers were reconnected by Monday morning.
APUA water customers were inconvenienced because of the absence of electricity to power the reverse osmosis plants and the turbidity of the seas.
Lots of sand and other debris, stirred-up because of the rough seas, caused the reverse osmosis plants to be turned off to prevent damage to the membranes and other sensitive parts.
APUA not only published a press statement but the Water Manager appeared on several radio stations to explain why water was temporarily suppressed.

Is anyone surprised to hear this latest round of excuses? Meanwhile, the problems get worse and the excuses become more stupid. The water problem can be solved….but not by this ABLP Government. The sooner he calls elections.. the better. We need a Government that can solve problems and move our country forward. Enough of the BS now.

Really? Water was off long before Fiona. The whole management of APUA needs to go. With all the billions of dollars this government has collected and borrowed, no excuse is acceptable. It is not a lack of resources, just lack of interest. If elections were not pending, the would not be fluttering around feigning concern.
540 million in secret, no stimulus, vaccine mandates, tear gas and rubber bullets, children denied school, civil servants denied pay, and the list goes on . No rational minded individual could support this colossal failure.
The sea conditions never affected the old desalination plant like this.

Thought you guys say do not rehash the past, as in the case of UPP accomplishments, but you rehash it when it makes (well at least so you think) you look and sound good.

“From the start of this year, I started looking at the numbers closely, but then I started looking even closer at the numbers and when you compare the amount of outages we had on these two units, and you compare what you are purchasing from APC, it just didn’t make any economic sense, Matthias explained.
Matthias said one of the remaining units also failed recently after a part went bad and this left one unreliable unit.
“While the electricity business unit manager stopped short of giving an amount, he said Antigua and Barbuda is still repaying debt for the plant.”
