Antiguans with considerable savings should invest in luxury housing, Hurst says

Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst has urged Antiguans and Barbudans with considerable savings to consider investing in government real estate programs aimed at promoting local ownership in the hospitality and real estate sectors.

Speaking on the strategic land purchases made by former leader V.C. Bird, Hurst highlighted the significance of those investments and the opportunities they continue to create for citizens today.

Responding to reporters, Hurst pointed out that of the 33,000 acres of land purchased under Bird’s leadership, about two-thirds have been used for housing, while the remaining one-third, totaling over 11,000 acres, is reserved for farming. He emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving agricultural land while encouraging local investment in real estate and hospitality projects, particularly luxury housing developments.

Hurst used the example of the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Nikki Beach project at Jolly Beach as an illustration of the kind of foreign investment the government welcomes.

However, he also stressed that locals should seize similar opportunities, especially those with significant savings. He pointed out that many Antiguans and Barbudans have demonstrated their purchasing power, citing a recent example where high-priced vehicles, such as trucks and SUVs selling for over $250,000, were quickly bought up by local buyers.

“The fact that these vehicles sold out in a matter of months demonstrates that there is significant wealth within the country,” Hurst noted. “The government believes that those who can afford such purchases should also consider investing in land and luxury housing, which, unlike vehicles, appreciate in value over time.”

Hurst urged citizens to recognize the long-term financial benefits of investing in real estate, particularly in the hospitality sector, as opposed to purchasing assets that depreciate in value. He added that these investments would not only benefit individuals but also contribute to the growth and sustainability of Antigua and Barbuda’s economy.

“We believe that many Antiguan and Barbudan families, especially those with considerable savings, will make wise decisions by investing in land and real estate development,” Hurst concluded. “These investments will help build up the hospitality sector and ensure that locals play a significant role in the country’s economic prosperity.”

  1. nope…You Garots love to keep your money in the bank for good looks. Then blame the government about not helping you…Get up off your arse and do what needs to be done. We foreigners love that. We invest, make lots of profits and repatriate the profits… So while you all blame the government, we reap the benefits and watch you quarrel amongst yourselves. A win win for us…O and the biggest crap, ”’o the government don’t give you any incentives to start business…’ . Load a crap. I have 3 businesses and I did not get any help out of the ordinary…
I just heard that taxi drivers have MILLIONS in the bank! ..and still driving taxi. That amount was WAY more that what I started

  2. LUXURY RESORTS: …LUXURY HOUSING…? …ENCOURAGING DEPLETION OF CITIZENS SAVINGS? WHAT THE HELL!

The suggestion might reasonably be looked at this way:

    (i) ‘…The former is for the ‘…RICHNESS OF THE RICH,’ such as the ‘…AYERS: and not
    necessarily for

    (ii) …The ‘…MASSES,’ comparatively bordering on ‘…POORNESS.’

WHERE WILL THE LAND COME FROM?

The distinguished ‘…Spokesperson for the Government,’ must know that the ‘…BETTER ÉRA OF BIRDISM’ has long passed into history.

He may, preferably, prudently and respectfully, wish to suggest this to those now responsible for ‘GOVERNANCE.’

    WISE INVESTMENTS: …LEADING THE WAY

Though he seemingly prefers ‘…ÁN ANTIQUE CAR,’ he may, of course, employ his ‘…DIPLOMATIC EXPERTISE,’ and ‘…LEAD THE WAY in embarking on ‘…LUXURY HOUSING.’

Such may provide for a more ‘…LUXURIOUS MERCEDES BENZ’ and comfortable ‘…DRIVING.’

None shall compete with the ‘…RICH: …MIGHTY AND …POWERFUL.’

    WISELY AND PROFITABLY

Though not necessarily encouraging ‘…MISERLY’ or ‘…MISERS,’ Citizens shall invest ‘…WISELY AND PROFITABLY.

  3. You recommending the buy of land and you were horrifically rude to me when I asked to buy land. Telling I need to send a proposal. Who on earth need to send a formal proposal for the simple things of asking if there are lands available for purchased and if so, I would like to make purchases.

He was just rude and uncaring. Just like MP Molwyn asking me to define victim when I ask him to sign a letter saying advocating and research for victims of crimes is of national importance.

I can honestly say nearly all my interaction with ABLP has been horrible, outright evil, from most of them.

Talking about buying land as investment but refusing to sell lands to Antiguans when asked.

Can someone get these people out of these positions and put better people in authority? Haven’t they got enough power and benefits and see it is time to retire and younger and fairer people take office in ABLP? Selfish man and rude man.

  4. @My way.. you went to ask the chief of staff about buying land? There are websites available by local relators where they list land for sale. If its government lands where you wish to built your home, you contact CHAPA or National Housing. If its for investment (which is what Hurst figured you meant), where most likely you would want tax incentives, of course a proposal will be required. ABIA normally handles the latter.

  5. @Pompey, I was about to say what you have said. Good point.

People are buying $250,000 vehicles to avoid the problems that comes with the used vehicles that most are forced to buy as a result of the government lack of providing less risky opportunities for locals to make a lot of money.

Locals should be able to lend the government money at a higher price but lower than what the government gets internationally, and locals are sure their moneys would be paid timely, as agreed.

Now that is the way to truly help your citizens and then you start talking about luxury housing investments to locals. There is process.

Who is ABLP strategist? Do they have any?

  6. @tenman, I want nothing for free. I did not ask for anything for free. I just want to know if land was available and I buy. I know Antigua and not even the items I shipped prior or those recently meant to donate to the police, schools and farmers did I ask for duty free. I paid their cost. Every dime I paid.

  7. In the US, you see a house for $3 million, you purchase it.

You see the land next to it, you go to the government, and ask if for sale, if they say yes, you purchase, no need at all to write proposals or beg a politician.

You move to another state, you want to purchase a firearm, you apply. No criminal background, you get your permit to purchase after paying your application fees. About $150.

You then decide you want your license to carry your firearm, you pay the application fees, submit your application, and evidence wait for a decision.

There are set procedures and rules that applies to all applicants equally. Any denial based on some subject view can be appealed for being Arbitrary and capricious and other violations of administrative due process rights of an applicant.

So no one can come on a news agency, making themself look like an idiot, defending a government’s wrongs with ignorance and quoting laws and rules that doesn’t exist and no learnt or prudent person could even think existed.

I sent a letter to the US President, the white house wrote back, your endeavor is of national important and happy you are assisting in this underserved area, thank you Joe Biden and a few state Governor.

I then went to the PM and MP Molwyn with the same letter, their response was i cannot help you (PM), and for Molwyn (MP), his response to me was, “can you define victims?”.

I literally got support from the US President and other high officials from state Government while the PM of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Brown, ignored me and say i cannot help you by simply acknowledging the importance of assisting victims of crimes and terrorism.

America, I love you. What I have accomplished I could never ever accomplish in Antigua and Barbuda under ABLP.

  9. Max, you should have considerable savings so how come you ah still drive the hand-painted Jalopy? This government don’t pay on time; everything expensive; people living paycheck to paycheck; not everyone will sell their soul for money. So where this considerable savings to come from?

  10. Luxury homes for whom to rent? I have a family member who built a house in Crosbies for rent and after two years, no offers. They finally listed it for sale, no offers. Finally the medical school students rented it. Does Mr. Hurst think it is easy to find tenants for luxury properties, unless you are a politician?
There is a dire need for houses for ordinary Antiguans but with the high building costs and scarcity of lands, people are no longer building rental properties because people can’t afford the rents. And don’t forget the trouble collecting the rent from locals.
The government should be addressing the rental crisis for ordinary people by providing lands and incentives to build apartments instead of talking crap about building luxury homes. Who would these homes be built for? Wealthy foreigners?

  11. As I’ve mentioned in recent times, if ANY politician recommends any investment, just do the opposite and look elsewhere. Because what they are pushing or promoting will benefit them but not you.

When Gaston recommended investing in crypto currency, I went into the stock market; when Gaston was promoted going to work in the hospitality industry, I decided to work for myself; and when he mentioned that the government were going to build homes for Antiguans, I built my own.

The bottom line here folks is that if any unqualified politician tell you how to invest, just do the opposite; you’ll be absolutely amazed how things can work out in your favour.

BRIXTONIAN ALWAYS WANTING THE BEST FOR ALL ANTIGUANS …

  12. Is Max still driving that dump of a thing for a car? Does anyone really listens to Max.I have never ask a Politician for help anywhere.I have no intentions of starting now.Investing your money with the Government is liken to throwing it into a bottomless pit.If you were to shake the hands of a Politician. You had better count your fingers after that handshake. To make sure all of your fingers are still in tact.

  13. To you FOREIGNERS called Antiguans “GARROT”, GET THE F#@K OUT OG ANTIGUA IF YOU DISLIKE OUR PEOPLE SO MUCH. THE PEOPLE YOURE COMPLAINING ABOUT ARE NOT EVEN INDIGENOUS ANTIGUANS. 14. @Victor…We did our research. Please tell us …HOW MANY GAROTS RESIDE IN THE USA and the UK? JUST THOSE TWO AREAS. Not any other place. You see you garots failed to realize that when you leave this beautiful place for ‘want of a better’ place, we come a fill the void. While Garots do what they do best, COMPLAIN!, we foreigners assimilate …dont be mad that we find this island a little beautiful paradise, but you feel like you are entitled to receive something that for the life of me – DONT UNDERSTAND.
