Monifa St John, an Antiguan student living in Wuhan China, revealed that the coronavirus has caused the city to be on lockdown affecting her PhD studies and business.

Wuhan, China is said to be the epicentre of the deadly coronavirus and is a city known for the usual hustle and bustle which has now almost depleted from the sprawling metropolis nicknamed “the Chicago of China” due to its status as a hub for transportation.

Monifa St John, who has lived there around 11 years, expressed that she was shocked by the state of Wuhan.

“To see Wuhan in the state that it is now is actually shocking, to see that there’s literally no one on the street. You know with this shut down we have all the bus systems, all the subway systems, any form of transportation has been shut down and you’re not even allowed to drive your personal car or else you’d be fined. They have designated cars for different areas.” she explained.

Consequently, she said she has not been able to access the information needed for her PhD research.

“I can’t get access to the type of information I would need for my research because I would need the school’s IP address and I don’t live on campus. Because I have a child, I have to live off-campus,” said St John.

The single mom and entrepreneur also revealed that the factory for one of her businesses had to be shut down temporarily.

  1. I understand that 17 new Chinese came in from China yesterday to work on the Embassy. Molwyn, why are you allowing this nonsense? Do you want to get us all sick?????

  2. She should be grateful that they are taking responsibility for the situation, and trying to contain it.

She won’t be able to study or make money if she’s dead!

Wake up Antiguan goverment and start to be responsible for your people – Background checks should be made on all that have travelled from or through China over the past 3 months!

    • Yep I agree with the part “Background checks should be made on all that have traveled from or through China over the past 3 months! but remember that they shared air space with other people going all over
