Stacey Bascus is currently in the United States participating on the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). She is taking part in a three-week project on “The Digital Economy – Transformative Technology for the Social Good” from June 10 to June 28.

Bascus has 15 years’ experience as an Immigration Officer with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and is currently assigned to the Citizenship Department as a Junior Supervisor (Administrative Officer II).

During the program, she and other participants will meet with advocates and start-ups to learn about best practices and challenges in developing technology for the social good, as well as meet with investors involved in recognizing, promoting, and developing innovative solutions to labor and human rights challenges.

Other key areas they will examine are how block-chain can be used to protect the rights of low-wage workers; and how block-chain-based currencies like Bitcoin may affect national economies, including the secure flow of remittances and other cross-border payments.

The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the Department of State’s premier professional exchange program.

The program brings together emerging leaders in their respective professions to learn from how U.S. experts in this profession operate, and to share best practices with the other program fellows who hail from the same region and across the globe.
