Antiguan man killed in fiery New Year’s Eve crash in Louisiana

Source- Advocate: A Lafayette man was killed on New Year’s Eve after he veered off Louisiana Highway 82 and crashed into a tree, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Jakima Morrissey, 40, was driving a 2023 Audi west on Highway 82, according to State Police. He veered to the right off the road near its intersection with Lulu Road and hit a tree, causing the car to ignite in flames, police said.

Morrissey, who police said was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car. The crash was reported to police just before 8:30 p.m. and Morrissey was declared dead on scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, police said.

  1. Not wearing that seat belt can be a reason for the insurance not to compensate his family. If they do, it will be substantially less than what he could have received. So, as we see, it’s not not only Friars Hill Road that accidents happen. Condolences to his family. Another young life taken by tragedy. My sincerest condolences to his friends and family.
