Antiguan Journalist Petra Williams to Attend China-Africa Cooperation Summit in Beijing
Antiguan journalist Petra Williams is set to observe the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing, which opened today. The summit, running from September 4 to 6, brings together delegations from 50 African nations, along with prominent international figures, to advance diplomatic, trade, and development partnerships under the theme “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.”
Williams, currently on a four-month tour of China, will be closely monitoring the proceedings as part of her journalistic coverage. The FOCAC Summit, a key platform established in 2000 to enhance China-Africa relations, is expected to solidify cooperation agreements that will shape the future of these relations over the next three years.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, a key participant in the summit, emphasized China’s constructive role in global diplomacy. “China is appreciated for not using its strength to bully, but using its strength to help and share development,” he stated upon his arrival in Beijing. His remarks echo the broader sentiment among African nations that respect China’s commitment to sovereignty and mutual benefit in international relations.
In addition to the African delegations, the summit will feature participation from Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairman of the African Union Commission, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who has been specially invited as a guest. Various international and regional organizations are also attending as observers, underscoring the summit’s global significance.
The event’s agenda includes discussions on the continuation of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a massive infrastructure project that has already greatly contributed to the modernization of Africa, despite challenges such as political instability and external resistance to deepening Sino-African ties.
As the summit progresses, Williams will provide further updates, offering insights into the agreements and discussions that will influence China-Africa relations for years to come.

Since when is Petra a journalist? Come on people do not bestow title on people just so. Yes she is in charge of WTP radio because Chet is impressed with her. I’m just one that holds my mouth and watch that space.
Petra stick with what you studied. Economics. I like when you give your opinion on those matters. And I like debating with you.
I know you will see this and may not publish…Why are you censoring my comments?
At least someone from Antigua and Barbuda will be there to witness, and report on Chinas positive World policy on developing for the rest of the world, and not selling arms to other Nations to fight poxy wars, killing innocent babies, women and committing genocide.
Remember Antigua and Barbuda benefit from Chinas BRI initiative with the development of Antigua and Barbuda sea and air ports.
The western hegemony, colonization and sanctions are becoming a thing of the past for the rest of world, they do not work anymore in this new world order.
I hope when she return, she will be able to put to rest all the negative propaganda about China, the western main stream media had being able to brain wash some of us Antiguans and Barbuda with.
I guess they meant Economist🤣
It is so ironic that this is a story about China and a comment I made cant be published.
Since when Petra Williams became a Journalist?
Well from the negative comments so far, Petra Williams sounds like another Nikki Phoenix in the making.
More power ✊🏾 to investigative journalism.
Congratulations 🎊 and all the best Ms Williams 👍🏾
