Antigua welcomes new Ambassador of Japan to Antigua and Barbuda on his first official visit

On the 21st of March, 2022, one week after the virtual Presentation of Credentials ceremony, the Honourable E.P. Chet Greene M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade, welcomed His Excellency MATSUBARA Yutaka, the new Ambassador of Japan to Antigua and Barbuda on his first official visit.

 

Ambassador Matsubara expressed his pleasure to be in the beautiful country of Antigua and Barbuda and pledged to deepen the relations that exist between both countries.

 

Minister Greene thanked Ambassador Matsubara for his kind words and the continuous people-to-people exchange and technical training facilitated by Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, which has strengthened Antigua and Barbuda’s human capital.

 

During his visit, Ambassador Matsubara also met with the Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, and conveyed best wishes on behalf of the Government of Japan.

 

Prime Minister Browne, in turn, thanked the Ambassador and the Government of Japan, for the newly installed reverse osmosis plant at Ffryes Beach which will be officially handed over on 24th March, 2022.

 

Prime Minister Browne further expressed his desire to significantly collaborate in areas of marine technology and food security to further diversify the economy of Antigua and Barbuda.

 

Over the course of his visit, Ambassador Matsubara also met with H. E. Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, the Honourable Samantha Marshall, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs and other senior government officials.
