Antigua Welcomes Back Caribbean Premier League Franchise in 2024, Minister Matthew Announces Competition for Name and Logo

The reintroduction of a Caribbean Premier League franchise to Antigua in 2024 was disclosed by the Sports Minister, Hon. Daryll Matthew, during his address in the Budget Debate at the Lower House of Parliament on Tuesday morning.

Minister Matthew also unveiled plans for a competition to decide the name and logo of the franchise, anticipating substantial revenue generation for the country through hosting matches.

Notably, Antigua had previously hosted the Antigua Hawksbills.

  1. What kind of premier league? Soccer or cricket? I may be interested in such investment as long as we can find ways to monetize it, so the talents are paid and I can make back my investments to continue investing into it.

    • It’s cricket, seeing as how they referred to the earlier cricket franchise, the Hawksbills. (That team is now the St. Kitts Patriots by the way). As such, this is fantastic news.
