The next OECS Monetary Council meeting will be held in Barbuda, marking a significant event for the sister island, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced.
Speaking on Pointe FM, Browne confirmed that Antigua and Barbuda, as the current chair of the Monetary Council, will host the high-level financial meeting in July 2025, with Barbuda as the chosen venue.
“The next Monetary Council meeting… will be held in Barbuda,” Browne stated.
The Monetary Council, which oversees the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), is the highest decision-making body for monetary policy within the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU). It is comprised of finance ministers and prime ministers from OECS member states, who discuss regional economic strategies, financial stability, and fiscal policies.
A Milestone for Barbuda
Hosting the Monetary Council meeting in Barbuda underscores the government’s commitment to Barbuda’s development and its integration into the national and regional financial landscape.
Browne also hinted that other major meetings, including potential CARICOM gatherings, could take place on the island in the future.
“And if you look sharp, I’m not saying this definitively, but I’m giving consideration that when we host our next CARICOM meeting, it may also be in Barbuda,” he added.
The decision to hold the OECS Monetary Council meeting in Barbuda aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance the island’s infrastructure, increase economic opportunities, and promote its role in regional affairs.
With finance ministers and key officials from across the Eastern Caribbean expected to attend, the meeting will bring a spotlight to Barbuda’s economic potential while strengthening its ties within the OECS financial system.

The road better be fixed, because that is an embarrasment
Hopefully, this leads to more development opportunities for Barbuda.
Hope they discuss ways to strengthen the EC dollar and boost regional trade.
A positive step, but will this actually lead to meaningful action?
The OECS needs to focus on inflation and banking accessibility—real concerns for people.
Looking forward to hearing what decisions come out of this meeting.
Great to see Barbuda getting the spotlight for once..
Hope they are all issued dust masks and bug spray
As a sister to the composition of Unitary state. The trajectory of our coexistence should have been pivoted on parallel track; even before the quasi independence inherited from England. I do hope that this meeting will address and, advocate for the Corginton’s and, England; to accept responsibility for the sorry, horrible state of affairs visited on our maroon and abandoned lot-due to their gunpowder horror, and depraved indifference to humanity and–pay the reparations long overdue; as dictated to their guilty, gluttonous conscience of plundering for conquest. That is: if they are in any possession of conscience or, imbued with the moral compass of humanity.
Here’s salute and shout out to us. Antigua 🇦🇬 Barbuda forevermore.
@Handit2me. If you believe that the UK is going to pay reparations to Antigua & Barbuda or anyone else then perhaps you will believe that it’s going to snow in St. John’s or Codrington tomorrow. It’s never going to happen.
