Antigua to construct Chicken Abattoir to cut down on $20M chicken meat import bill

5

CABINET NOTES:

The Cabinet agreed that work will soon begin on the Chicken Abattoir, to assist the poultry farmers in butchering their chickens.

Antigua and Barbuda has become self-sufficient in eggs but not in chicken meat.

More than twenty million dollars are spent each year importing chicken meat from large producers in Brazil, the United States and elsewhere.

It has long been an ambition of the food producers in Antigua to provide sufficient protein-rich food for domestic consumers.

Chicken Meat is a favourite of the Antiguan and Barbudan household and every effort will be made to meet market demands, as far as possible.

  1. Long overdue, ’bout time too! Why ABLP always reactive instead of being proactive?

  2. Wow wow wow I think that those individuals that took over the reigns of Governance in this country from 1976 they all should be exsumed from there resting place and be tried for crime against humanity . Antiguans let’s not forget do you remember the campaign against the PLM Administration Blue Chicken. Remember the suppliers Salvoury in Scotts Hill Lindsay Chicken Farm in Pares Village they were the suppliers for the products chicken and eggs import of these products were limited we were self sufficient but rather than we develop the products we distroy the suppliers and production imagine that we would have been the largest suppliers and distributors through out the Caribbean we were the first. Let us not forget the black belly sheep remember Barbados got the sheep from Antigua today they are supplying the local market and export mutton to other countries Look way we come to.

  3. Lets watch this space folks. This government has done absolutely nothing for this country, without benefiting themselves.
If we watch their track record, someone of them will be in on this or one of their cronies, just like Gaston Browne’s farm. Where is the people’s egg box making machine that Samantha Marshall huffed? Dont be surprised if that resurfaces. The idiot at the helm is greedy, and it has infected them all.
Antigua and Barbuda, we in trouble.

  4. I agree that Antigua should be 100 self sufficient in eggs and poultry production and so I welcome the decision to build an abattoir in order to facilitate this. There are sufficient egg and poultry producers in Antigua who should be assisted and encouraged to engage in this undertaking, as a group or as a company. We do NOT have to bring in foreign investors to do this. Antiguans and Barbudans can be managers as well. Let’s do more to empower them.

  5. Hope black Antiguans own this and not some government minister, family or pale skin. The government does nothing for black Antiguans except pay them crap for their votes. Where all the black successful business people gone? Ordinary black people have gotten so poor in this country while all the others can continue to fatten their accounts.
