Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda has recently announced plans to boost the country’s tourism sector by investing in amphibious vehicles.

Speaking on Pointe FM, Browne revealed that he has instructed the investment authority to explore projects that can utilize various businesses, including purchasing assets like amphibious vehicles.

Browne emphasized the potential of amphibious vehicles for tourism, suggesting that they could be used for land and sea tours.

He mentioned that these vehicles cost around $400,000 in the United States, but the cost could be significantly lower if purchased from China, possibly around $200,000 each.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need for collaboration among Antiguans to operate these vehicles, suggesting that interested parties could pool resources to make the venture viable.

He encouraged potential investors to develop proposals, noting that tourism is a major industry for the country.

“We cannot sit back and wait for opportunities to come to us,” Browne stated, underscoring the importance of proactive investment in sectors crucial to Antigua and Barbuda’s economic growth.

Browne also mentioned that the government is willing to support such initiatives, stating, “We’re actually spoon-feeding them,” indicating a proactive approach to attract investments that can benefit the tourism sector.

  1. I was just looking at these same vessels but my real issues are the cost by which our same leaders go kill poor man like me to import much less….

  2. Gaston need to stop playing with people way of life and pay me dam gratuity money. One car money is more than my gratuity. When it is not no gas car for Barbuda and AA to land in Barbuda before election now a amphibious vehicles. What the hell next you go come with.?

  3. Gaston Browne is officially out of touch with the citizens of the country. How on earth can he promote this utter crap and nonsense when the majority of Antiguans cannot afford to live comfortably here. Tarl!

    THE MAN IS A FANTASIST.

A ‘Walter Mitty’ character if ever there was one. Absolutely delusional.

Browne is so cocooned and lives in a bubble, and needs to show some sympathy towards the suffering – get the basics right in the country first you aimless WOOLGATHERER (as the ABLP acolytes run for their dictionaries 😁).

The only people we will see driving these land & sea vehicles will be ABLP cabinet members as they wave at us while we stand at the dockside or shorelines.

    • The man has completely lost the plot, I wonder how much he thinks they will generate in income? As always he talki about spending huge amounts but never once says what the returns would be. He is unhinged and grasping at the straw that’s about to break the camel’s back.
Instead of all those crazy pipe dreams they need to focus on paying their debts. Imagine they owe the funeral homes so much that they refusing to take the skeletal remains found this week, but they have money to but a freezer to store them. What kind of alternate reality is this we living in here in Antigua.

  4. People, wake up . I can bet my last dollar that some one that is his relative or business partner already on board . Mark my words . You see the cost for these vehicles? Antiguans can hardly buy new vehicle here that cost much less . That’s why all the Vizt,Frizt and so on here.

  5. I would like Gaston to buy one of these cars, circumnavigate ANU and then see how many he want to order.

  6. Um…can we fix the roads first before endorsing this initiative since so many can’t afford homes and food? Nonsense!

  7. Wait!!! Is Antigua & Barbuda’s collective memory so short that we do not remember the shady amphibious vehicle deal back around 2018 or 2019 when GB brought in the Hippos to much fanfare? Where are they now? I don’t think they ever touched water. How much did we spend then? History is repeating itself. Maybe they will give the ole Hippos a wash and drag them out as shiny new.

    • I Onanu you are absolutely correct. What has happened to those amphibious vehicles that came here a few years ago. They were parked down at the port. Were they self driving as well and just went into the sea for a sail 😄

      • At least there’s no pot holes in the sea,
Curious being new to the island, only 2 years, where does the revenue from Vehicle Inspection go, certainly is not the roads.

  8. The PM’s Dubai trip was certainly an eye opener for him. What will he think of next!🤦 💡

  9. what a great idea. Instead of fixing the masses of potholes on the roads, lets just get everyone during amphibious cars, then they wont even need the roads

  10. At least there’s no pot holes in the sea,

  11. Let the taxi do the taxi job. Let the boat do the boat job. And the pm do the pm job. Antigua isn’t short on transport.what we lacking is good road, the better the road the smoother the operation.

  13. Mr. PM what is happening to my suggestion to start a Hovercraft Service between Antigua and Barbuda and with the possibility to expand this throughout the Leeward Islands and then the Winward Islands. This will compliment LIAT 2020 and perhaps service the un-economical routes that LIAT has to drop.

These are ideas for person to invest when it comes to offering things to do for the cruise tourism. And Brix I know you are not that smart to understand what the PM is saying, but he is right. Amphibious vehicles are good tourists attractions. And if no one does it and the PM’s son does it, you will accuse him of family enrichment. But he put the idea for the whole of Antigua to see.

    • @From The Sideline…when the PM son does it, he gets the perks and other incentives which other investors are not privy to.
Let’s hope one of them PM or Son, or PM & Son don’t end up being Antigua and Barbuda, “Man On The Run.”

    • To me this is shit. Why don’t you go and invest in them? If this was such a great investment Gaston and his son would have hoarded the investment for themselves. The average Antiguan cannot even afford a house. There has never before been so many poor people in Antigua.

      • No wonder you guys lies do not make sense. The number of vehicles imported in this country over the past years during this Gaston Browne giving away duty free is staggering and those are poor people that brought in their own vehicle from Japan. How many houses this Gaston Browne administration has not build so far for the very same poor people. Over one thousand and counting. And I can go on and on. But keep it up guys, your lies may stick some how. And some may believe you. You know the first duty of a man is to think for himself. And I certainly will always think for myself.

        • [Mr., Ms, Mrs] From The Sidelines aka the Star of Mrs. Condescending is back…

Ok, with all this money floating around this Nation and, since, things are so efficient running smoothly, why I am not able to go online, create an account at Social Security & Medical Benefits to at least begin the process, of collecting my retirement funds?
No excuses about “Identification,” those should be able to be uploaded to the SS and MB portals.
I need to have my retirement directly deposited into my grandchild Education Fund.

Can we get such things normalized before having people trying to star in their own James Bond Action Series with an Amphibious_Vehicle being, The Bond_Mobile?

Get the little simple thibgs right first. The little things hold big things together.

Mrs. Condescending could use a Bond_Type Sleuth driving an Amphibious_Limo.

        • Very tempting to reply to your utter nonsense @ From The Sideline, but I did promise you that I’ll let you get yourself back together again after your recent SABBATICAL.

          TAKE CARE SUP … 🤜🏽🤛🏽

    • No, no, nooo @ From The Sideline, you really don’t understand me at all!

However, I am really glad that you have returned to the ANR threads. You are a good adversary to have.

To tell you the truth, whilst you disappeared from here there was no real competition for me, apart from tenman and Dave Ray, but they were too “sometimish”.

ALL THE REST JUST CUSS AND CURSE 🤬

I’ll leave you be for a while, so that you can build your confidence again … I don’t want you vanishing away again. 😂

      All the best
      Brixtonian

  14. If the government is doing this investment for tourism, then why would ordinary local residents have anything to do with it? The tourist would come, rent them, at their own risk. So why are people being bothered.
