Antigua moving full steam ahead with idea for Visa-Free Travel Among SIDS Nations

1

Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda has thrown his support behind a visionary proposal for visa-free travel among the 39 Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Browne believes that visa-free travel within these small islands is a low-risk and beneficial move, addressing an oversight that needs rectifying.

He plans to advocate for this proposal by writing to his fellow heads of state, encouraging them to embrace the visa-free pact for the citizens of the 39 SIDS nations.

The proposal, introduced by the Global Citizen Forum, calls for the signing of the Saint John’s Accord—a groundbreaking multilateral agreement that would allow visa-free travel for citizens of the 39 SIDS.

This initiative aims to replace over 200 bilateral agreements with a single, comprehensive agreement, with the Passport Index serving as the official benchmarking tool.

Visa-free travel is anticipated to incentivize bilateral trade, boost tourism, drive investment in local economies, and enhance employment opportunities for professional and skilled workers.
