Antigua Masonry Products Employees Return to Work

0

Antigua Masonry Products has resolved a labor dispute that had brought operations to a standstill at the construction materials company.

The strike, driven by workers demanding retirement benefits and salary increases, was the second industrial action in two months. After unsuccessful negotiations with management, dozens of employees took to the picket line.

Earlier this week, the strike paused briefly on Tuesday when the union received court documents indicating the company had referred the dispute to the industrial court. This legal move required the workers to return to their jobs, following instructions from the Free Trade Union, which represented them.

However, the company quickly withdrew the case after a hearing date was set. In response, the Free Trade Union escalated the issue, filing its own case with the industrial court.

Employees have since returned to work, awaiting a hearing date. The union is seeking a retroactive salary increase for the last three years for the 65 workers it represents, as well as a wage hike over the next three years. Negotiations between both parties remain ongoing, with no agreement reached yet.
