Following the service of a subpoena issued by a US Federal Court, the Cabinet selected a US law firm to plead before the US Court on behalf of all the defendants in this frivolous and fictitious lawsuit that was initiated by Yullia Gureyev.
The plaintiff claimed ownership of the vessel two years after it sat in an Antigua harbour, sanctioned by the United States Government.
The Antigua and Barbuda Government is asserting that the US Federal Court has no jurisdiction in this matter; therefore, a single lawyer is defending all those named in the lawsuit.
It is the obligation of the Government to meet the expenses of the lawsuit, since it acted in the best interest of the Government and People in the disposition of the Alfa Nero.

Having one attorney in this case probably will cause ethical issues, if not already. These allegations seems to show private individuals (in that capacity) committed wrongdoings but not the government itself. When it is time for the government (the country) to make deals that could place liability/responsibility to the private individuals like the PM, this attorney cannot be representing both parties or must do so with clear waivers (if I am remembering the rules of professional responsibility properly).
I demand PM brown pay his own attorney and the country gets it own. If this turn out to be nonsense, then the country compensate the PM for his legal representation expenses (only then, not now).
Anything less, there is clear corruption in ABLP.

I would like all Antiguans to know that this Alfa Nero situation is jus getting started…..Billionaires from nuclear weapon capable Russia will not let a random man from a tiny country in the Caribbean take their Super Yacht, sell it and leave it there….It is just the beginning of this saga.
It is not every battle that we should fight. This legal fight is bound to cost Antigua and Barbuda taxpayers huge sums of money with no guarantee of a win. We have to seriously weigh our options…..whether it is in our best interest to challenge and resist this request or simply just comply. Satisfying and complying with the request might be the lesser of the two evils. This case would be a further burden on tax payers at a time when our economic outlook is being threatened by recent world affairs.
Sadly, at the end of all these litigations, the Lawyers will be the biggest beneficiaries of the Alfa Nero sale — while POOR Antiguan tax payers would’ve been shafted over and over!

How is that you are claiming that you seized and sold Alfa Nero you were doing so under the instructions of America. You had no reason to seize and sell the yacht. You do not have an issue with Russia.
Now the owners of Alfa Nero are using American courts to obtain documents you are claiming that they have no jurisdiction and are fighting them.
Do they have jurisdiction when it aligns with your wishes only?
If your hands are clean and you money is legit why are you so opposed to providing documents?
