Antigua and Barbuda Moves to Strengthen Baking Industry
Antigua and Barbuda’s Ministry of Trade is developing a National Bakeries Policy and backing the formation of a Bakers’ Association to boost industry standards.
At a recent stakeholder consultation, bakery representatives and government officials discussed plans to enhance food security and promote sustainable practices—goals aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, according to Ambassador Clarence E. Pilgrim.
Trade Policy Analyst Nadia James said the new policy would focus on safety and quality, while Deputy Chief Health Inspector Daryl Spencer endorsed the association as a step toward higher industry standards.
Bakers concluded the session by forming a Temporary Board to draft a constitution and lay the groundwork for a permanent association.

Sounds positive, hope in the future that we will get better quality bread, not those with tough, tough, half baked insides we usually get from Brownie’s
Antigua people eat wayyyy too much bread!!
Chet Greene , Ya sa so Bakery owner and Minister of Trade . Hope the readers knows he once implemented the Bakers association and advised how to cut ingredients in bread production to allow higher turnover and make consumption of bread immediate and not one you can preserve for days . Simple to say let people buy bread daily and not weekly .

Local bread is delish. Leave it alone. The Association should focus on increasing access to bread in different communities. They should also add more health bread options. White bread is ok when eaten with lots of protein to limit sugar spikes, but some more whole wheat offerings would be good. Also, more baked veggie loafs etc. would help.
Me no k how good it sounds, the UN is not suppose to come get down into our common baker shops and bread, every place they go it’s destruction, can you all remember CARDI for agriculture and other agricultural aide, when they were done with us we ended up with GMO agricultural products, we were fully organic before they came, people use to share plant seeds and it grew and bearing fruit back then, now turning on our bread we end up not having organic bread.
