Government Announces New Internship Program for ‘Bright Young Minds

Lionel “Max” Hurst, spokesperson for the government of Antigua and Barbuda, announced the launch of a new internship program aimed at recruiting 150 of the country’s brightest young individuals into various government ministries.

Hurst outlined the criteria for selection, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence and intellectual merit.

“The idea is to select some of the smartest young people, those who have done exceedingly well academically, and bring them into government ministries,” he said.

The selection process will involve an interview phase due to the anticipated high number of applicants.

“We are creating 150 spaces and expect far more than 150 applications,” Hurst noted.

“To narrow down the number, we will conduct interviews. Those who perform outstandingly academically and do very well in the interview will likely secure a place in one of these ministries.”

Internship placements will align with the career interests of the applicants.

For instance, those interested in healthcare may be placed at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center or ClareVue Hospital.

Those with a focus on customer service might be assigned to the VC Bird International Airport or other ministries that frequently interact with the public, such as the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA).

The program aims to integrate young talent into the public sector, providing structured opportunities for young professionals to contribute to the nation’s development.

Cabinet Notes: The Cabinet has decided to initiate an internship programme for summer 2024 with one hundred and fifty young men and women, 17-19 years old.

They will have an opportunity to earn a stipend during the summer and to learn new skills that will strengthen their employment chances, following graduation from high school.  CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR WHATS APP GROUP

    Electioneering at its finest.

Governing by HEADLINES. There are at least 10 different set of headlines in todays and yesterdays newspapers which give the appearance of aggrandisement.
