Cabinet is giving thought to providing 32% of severance liability to former LIAT (1974 Ltd) staff members in an effort to settle its moral obligation to the former staff members.
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda owned a 32% share in LIAT (1974 Ltd) and cannot reasonably be expected to bear a bigger share of the burden than it may be legally required to contribute, had the airline owned assets sufficient to meet its debts obligations. It is estimated it will cost about ECD10 million.

WOW an entire day has passed, and no one wants to comment on this gesture of the Government. Does it need to sink in? So, Antigua is thinking of paying 32% of the $120million US Dollar that is owed. Which is US$38.4. Which I guess is far less than the 50% they first offered. Good move Gaston. Just pay your moral share.
Reminds me of the long time story of the “dog with the bone”. Upon seeing it’s reflection in water, tried to grab the other ‘dog’s fake bone, only to lose its own real one – ends up with nothing!
Not exactly parallel, but I am sure you get the gist!
Be that as it may…
All this grand gesture, and talking about payment to Liat’s former employees is all well and good. But can anyone confirm to me that ALL OF GOVERNMENT’S EMPLOYEES HAVE BEEN PAID THEIR SALARIES AND WAGES FOR MARCH AND THE WEEK ENDING 31ST MARCH 2023?
Enquiring minds and all that….
