Five officers from Antigua & Barbuda will reportedly be part of a team of law enforcers who will be heading to the Bahamas as part of the Regional Security System.
“There’s presently a request from Bahamas for police officers and Antigua has made that commitment that we will participate in the deployment and we will shortly identify our team that will be going, Acting Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney told State media.
Northern Bahamas was severely damaged last week after Hurricane Dorian made landfall as a Category 5 storm.
Authorities said Thursday that the list of people missing had been reduced from 2,500 to about 1,300 while the official death toll stood at 50.
Capt. Errington Shurland, Executive Director of the RSS said Antigua & Barbuda was one of the first countries that committed to deploying persons to the Bahamas.
“In fact, I met with the Hon. Attorney General yesterday (Wednesday) Steadroy Benjamin and he gave his commitment that Antigua and Barbuda would be part of the deployment. So, I was very very happy to hear that without having even broached the question”.
Over 30 officers are expected to be deployed by the RSS.
