Antigua & Barbuda In Line For A Cement Factory – Greene

1

Trade Minister, E. P. Chet Greene said plans to establish a cement manufacturing plant in Antigua & Barbuda is “very much in the advanced stages”.

“We have significant limestone deposits in Antigua. They have been scientifically tested, proven to be of high quality and so a cement manufacturing unit in Antigua & Barbuda is something that is on the horizon”, the Minister said on stage media Monday.

“The agreement is about to be inked where this becomes a factory in Antigua producing not just for domestic consumption but certainly an export product”, he said.

Greene said he believed the venture would be successful citing great demand for cement.

“Look at our own national demand for cement. Almost weekly there’s a shortage of that product in Antigua Barbuda. It speaks to the construction boom that’s happening in the country and if we’re going to have this kind of development continuing, the arrival of a cement manufacturing plant in Antigua Barbuda is certainly one of the most welcomed news items we could have in a long time” he said.

The Trade Minister said he would provide a timeline yet for the factory’s establishment after meeting with the principals of the proposed factory on Tuesday.
