The Ministry of Health says even though there is no known or confirmed case of the Coronavirus in Antigua & Barbuda, a plan has already been developed in preparation for it.

Health Minister Molwyn Joseph made a statement on the matter ahead of the budget presentation.

He said while the virus has spread to other countries, namely the United States, Antigua & Barbuda is monitoring the situation “and has developed a plan to mitigate any effects.”

Joseph told a joint sitting of the House that the main objectives of the plan is to ensure the health of all citizens, residents and visitors.

  • The establishment of multi-stakeholder Coronavirus task force
  • Identification of areas for quarantine and identification of cases
  • establishing links between students and others living in China
  • Allocation of resources for early detection
  • Ensuring health care providers are informed and equipped to respond

The minister said the situation is evolving and the plan can be adapted. He said the government is also working with regional health bodies.

He urged residents to wash hands with soap and water and cover mouth when sneezing.

  1. Viruses are so easy to infiltrate in society. And lord help if it comes through via the schools. Imagine your poor child coming home infected and infect you and you not knowing affect others especially if they don’t show all the symptoms . Imagine going to work in the AC and affecting others etc

Lord help us if those new 28 cases of viruses never before seen get into the atmosphere from Tibet as well

  2. Coronaviruses are jumping increasingly from animals to humans, creating new threats. Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that infect mostly pigs, cats and other animals. They can also jump from animals to humans, and from one human to another. Outbreaks in recent years have killed thousands of pigs in China
