Antigua Barbuda Defence Force Commissions very first Airwing

PRESS RELEASE:

ABDF commissioned its newest unit, ABDF AIRWING and aircraft, ALPHA 1 today.

 

This newest unit expands the capabilities of the Force in providing Security and Support services to the nation.

 

The small 9 seat aircraft enables the Force to offer aerial support across the Tri-Island state in Disaster/Emergency Response, Search and Rescue Support, Medevac, Maritime Space Surveillance among others.

 

Successful operations include a recent Medevac from Barbuda of a COVID 19 patient who was in severe distress and could not be quickly extracted via sea.

 

The complete round trip, to include pick up of the patient by ambulance in Antigua, took less than 45 minutes in total.

 

The short ceremony was attended by the Governor General, H.E. Sir Rodney Williams, the Attorney General, Hon. Steadroy Benjamin, Minister of Aviation, Hon. Sir Robin Yearwood, among other guests from local and regional partners.

 

The event culminated in a flyby by the aircraft, and reception catered by ABDF Catering Department.

 

ABDF Airwing’s motto is “Sparing Nothing Giving ALL”.

  3. what half ass story is this? History was made yesterday in Antigua and Barbuda and that was over looked. “The short ceremony was attended by the Governor General, H.E. She does not bear mention?

    • Errrrmmmmmm….. While I am not downplaying the importance of Miss Goodwin’s achievement, she is certainly NOT the first female pilot in Antigua…. Have you ever heard the name Lystra Simon?

  4. From the time that plane need it’s first maintenance service or parts, it done. Government nah find no money to maintain that plane. Same reason it went into disuse before.
