Antigua and Barbuda’s State of Emergency has ended

The Antigua and Barbuda state of emergency (SOE) and curfew that had been put in place since March last year has ended.

Both the state of emergency and nightly curfews ended at 5 a.m on Thursday, December 23.

The latest publication of regulations under the Public Health Act (Dangerous Infectious Disease) (Amendment) makes it clear all other safety protocols remain in place. These special measures take effect at 5:01am on Thursday, December 23 until further ordered by the Central Board of Health.

Those regulations mandate business owners and operators to ensure employees, customers and clients wash or sanitize their hands before entering the establishment, wear a face mask and maintain physical distancing of six feet with other individuals.

Bars, cinemas, night clubs and other entertainment facilities are mandated to continue to allow entry only to those presenting a vaccination identification card, while restaurant owners and operators are also mandated to permit in-house dining only to those with a vaccination identification card.

Gym operators are also mandated to permit entry only to those with a vaccination identification card.

Owners and operators who flout these regulations are liable to a fine of $5,000.00 or six months in prison or to both fine and imprisonment.

Meanwhile, also among the regulations is the mandatory wearing of face masks in public by all citizens and residents.

The masks must completely cover both the nose and the mouth of the wearer. In addition, the wearer must leave the ears, eyes and forehead visible and the mask must not be worn together with dark glasses, caps, hoodies or any other head covering.

In addition, no public gathering shall take place without the approval of the Central Board of Health

    • Hmmmmm no credit is necessary since the state of emergency (SOE) was unnecessary in the first place. The implementation of the covid Regulations under the Public Health Act did not require the SOE. If you do not understand that like the government you are as ignorant as they are.

  1. @ Charles Tabor

Why make such STUPID comment ? This Government is not stupid. All Stupid and Ignorance belong to UPP with all the Candidates on your ticket. NO NO Attorney General for you Tabor. ERIC ( THE RED ) it is time for you to show postings .Tabor is afraid of you. We miss you ERIC ( THE RED)

  2. Is it just me or is the result of this nothing more than allowing people to be out past the time when they would be in their bed anyway?
