Antigua and Barbuda’s Police Force is preparing for the busy Christmas season. Superintendent Rodney Ellis, Head of the Traffic Department, has utilized authority under Section 89 (1) of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act to control traffic in St. John’s during the holidays.

Market Street (from South Street to Church Street) and New Gate Street (from Corn Alley to Pope’s Head Street) will be closed to vehicles from December 20th to December 23rd, 2023, between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily. On Christmas Eve, December 24th, the closure will extend from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.

Motorists are urged to plan alternate routes, and cooperation with these temporary traffic regulations is crucial for public safety and smooth festive activities in the city.

Superintendent Ellis emphasizes the Royal Police Force’s commitment to creating a secure and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors during Christmas events.

As the holiday season approaches, the Traffic Department encourages responsible and harmonious participation in festive activities, with citizens staying informed through official channels for updates or inquiries.

  1. If they can’t keep a slow non-festive season low crime, how they go keep a busy season like Christmas safe? Get rid of Rodney Atlee!
