Antigua and Barbuda’s Economy achieves 8.1 percent growth in 2023

Although faced with many challenges during 2023, Antigua and Barbuda has recorded growth of 8.1 per cent.

This was announced by Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne during the presentation of the 2024 Budget to the House of Representatives.

Prime Minister Browne credited the high growth rate to his government’s decision to reopen the ports and the economy on June 1, 2020, following the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“That single, farsighted decision opened our country to a multitude of privately owned aircraft and wealthy visitors that helped to sustain our economy.  So too did our decision to allow the opening of bars, restaurants, and other businesses in a careful manner, permitting many of our people to go back to work,” Prime Minister Browne stated.

Prime Minister Browne stated that the action of his government gave the nation a head start in recovering the economy and restoring it to the path of growth that is now enjoyed prior to 2020.

“The result was growth of 8.2 per cent in 2021; 9.5 per cent in 2022; and spectacular growth of 8.1 per cent in 2023, unmatched by any country, except Guyana with its recent exploitation of oil and gas,” he said

Prime Minister Browne said that his government is proud to have given courageous and visionary leadership to the country and its people, who benefitted from its implementation in their interest, wellbeing, and progress.

“That, Mr. Speaker, is the mark of good governance; a competent government; and empowerment of our people!” he said.

“This was announced by […] Gaston Browne during the presentation of the 2024 budget to the House of Representatives …”

Where’s the actual benefits for the ordinary people living in Antigua & Barbuda?

Have we seen more money in our pockets, food prices falling or on our tables, and taxes going down?

More, SMOKE, MIRRORS and FOGGING by an out of touch and out of their minds ABLP government.

They are just throwing out percentage numbers that’s currently being eaten away by HIGH inflationary figures.

    • @ Brixtonian

You are spot on. They always trying to bamboozle us with percentages which don’t mean FART.
All they do is sear our conscience with pronouncements.

  2. @ BRIXTONIAN

You should stop spewing GARBAGE. You have nothing to do with your life than to CRITICIZE the most intelligent Prime Minister Gaston Browne. You find nothing wrong with the budget but you still criticize. You should take time from your lazy schedule and teach the UPP Member of parliament to read the budget. UPP is the WORST Opposition in the WORLD. It pains my heart to hear Them in Parliament.

    • Hi @ JP, how you keeping? Long time no hear!

    • SIDEY’S TRANSLATION:

Brixtonian way too good for me on ANY topic (especially on the economy), and his wordplay and grammar outshines whatever I have to say.

I can’t properly respond to his OUTSTANDING oratory, so I have to try and resort to deflectionary tactics – just like Gassssston. 🥸

      Say it isn’t so Sidey … 😁

  4. Sidelines: I am a stupid person. So educate stupid me.If as the Dawg did say the economy grew 8.1%. Why all the borrowings and new taxes on the people. The new ABST is going to be 17%.That is very high.Where I am living,it is 8.25 percent. There are no sales taxes on all food items. The State gets 6.25 and the areas where goods are sold gets 2 percent. The beauty is I see my tax dollars at work every day.Highways being extended, fly overs being built here.To put the cherry on the ice cream. The Government cut property taxes beginning next month,January.I already got my property tax statement with that reduction. That is good GOVERNANCE.Giving back to the people what is there’s.For it is our damn monies.Gaston Browne, the genius, the smartest man on earth. He did say,he would borrow Antigua and Barbuda out of DEBT.NOW,HE IS GOING TO TAXED THE PEOPLE OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA TO “DEATH”.I AWAIT YOUR RESPONSE,FAT BOY.
