Antigua and Barbuda’s By-Election: Parties Gear Up for September 17 Showdow

15

The Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has officially designated September 17 as the launch date for its by-election campaign.

This development has sparked anticipation among the public and the candidates representing the three political parties competing for the vacant seat.

cThe by-election became necessary four months ago due to the resignation of the United Progressive Party’s (UPP) candidate, former MP Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon, and a contentious election petition against him.

The ABLP’s newly selected candidate, Senator Dwayne George, is now pitted against his former political ally, ‘Shugy,’ in a bid to win the constituency’s support.

Political commentator Petra Williams believes that the ABLP aims to concentrate its election machinery on September 17, but she acknowledges that George must address his past disagreements with the government to win over voters.

Regarding the UPP, political commentator Dwyer Astaphan suggests that the party lacked strategic prudence in the January 18 general elections and calls for more proactive leadership.

Jamale Pringle, the interim political leader, is yet to be officially elected as the party’s leader. Williams agrees with Astaphan, emphasizing the need for opposition parties to effectively challenge the ruling party’s mistakes and blunders.

Williams expresses support for St John’s Rural West MP Richard Lewis as a potential leader for the UPP, praising his drive and thoughtful approach to issues.

As the by-election approaches, the political landscape in Antigua and Barbuda remains uncertain, with the outcome likely to shape the future of these parties and their leaders.

      @ RED RED

Only losers behave like you. All you do is just curse curse curse because the ABLP has no record to run on.

Oh how you wish – all that you have said is wrapped up in one phrase ” St Mary’s South people DO NOT LIKE TRAITORS”

  5. A.B.L.P. supporters are behaving like cornered, rabid skunks stinking up the Nation.

  6. Not saying that Sugy and the UPP should be complacent but when the votes are counted Sugy is going to win by a much wider margin. So the people of St. Mary’s South enjoy the infrastructure improvements until the Election Day , enjoy the duty free, lands distribution, fee bicycles , cash handouts and oh yes water – potable water in your pipes every day, every hour. As usual as soon as the votes are finished counting nothing else will be happening in this constituency. I can bet my life on that. Remember the old slogan- Eat them out, use them out and vote them out. This is exactly what is happening at St.Mary’s.
APLP is wasting the country resources in having a big concert, with free drinks and food , all coming from the treasury- directly or indirectly.
So rightly said by someone- local contractors and suppliers are suffering , why not use the concert money to pay them and the Alfa Nero money too should be going to contractors. When Sugy done with you all it is going to be a downward slide . You ask for it GB here is the end of your political career. Suggy victory is exactly that signal . Sugy, sugar boy please continue to stay humble. You are that charismatic leader Antigua is looking for, In A few months like Mitchell of Grenada you have become that rising start. The sky is the limit- I am backing you to become Antigua next PM . God bless and STAY HUMBLE AND TRUE TO YOURSELF. GOD BLESS! Who GOD bless no man CUSS !
