The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) commends the government and its regional counterparts for their unwavering defense of the Cuban Medical Brigade and their continued support of Cuba’s significant contributions to regional healthcare.

Despite challenges, including scrutiny from the United States regarding the Cuban medical program, Caricom leaders have consistently highlighted the immense value of this initiative, which continues to benefit their countries.

General Secretary of the ABWU, Senator David Massiah, said the organisation stands firm in recognizing the indispensable role that Cuban healthcare professionals have played in improving health outcomes in Antigua and Barbuda and across the region.

The ABWU urges the government to not only communicate its future plans concerning the Cuban medical team but also to engage the public in understanding the vital services that these healthcare professionals provide.

“The people of Antigua and Barbuda owe Cuba a debt of gratitude for its past and ongoing support, including the medical care of our citizens and the education and training of numerous local healthcare professionals”.

In light of this, the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union is calling on the government to remain steadfast in solidarity with Cuba—and the Cuban people.

  1. This CORRUPT, WICKED, INCOMPETENT, USELESS, GREEDY, SELFISH “Union” is in bed hoteliers!!!!

Don’t let these fake ass PR stunts fool you!!! Geriatric David Massiah needs to exit the Senate!!!

  2. We need the workers union to support the security guard working at special security, especially sandals, they are under alot of advantage,by the so call supervisors ,n Martin the security manager is a demon.

  3. We do not need to castigated the ABWU for its support of our Cuban brothers and sisters who have provided the world with excellent health care in our time of need. It’s great to see that our peoples are united on this issue regardless of our political affiliations. Right is right. To accuse Cuba of human trafficking is outrageous and wrong.

  4. Well dor once massiah and his canals can commend the government. Wow! Things are changing ha ha. And it is a good sign. Now go and tell the former Liat workers to accept the money the government is providing and stop the politricks

  5. I agree that the government should be commended for their stance on the Cuban matter. The US always believes that they can toss small islands about. Tell Trump go to hell.

  6. Ask yourselves why?
UWI was created in 1948. That’s 77 years ago. Its first school and mission was to train doctors. With a medical school and a hospital as it’s foundation over 60 years ago.
When these issues are raised then you are not a patriot and you should be run out of Town.

    What happened?

Why are the very same islands, now CARICOM and part of the UWI educational institutions network, dependant on Cuban doctors?

Why aren’t we focusing on math biology chemistry and other science desciplines at the primary and secondary school level, that leads to medical careers?

Why aren’t we giving our young teachers the opportunity for specialized training and curriculum development?

  7. Why is it that this Hypocritical HYPOCRISY can’t understand what the subject is? It’s a shame to be a dunce in these times and there’s no other to blame.

  8. Why is it that 26 years after the first large group of students went to Cuba to train we still depend on the support of Cuban doctors to maintain out healthcare system? We should be self sufficient by now. Had there been a plan for sustainable human resource development we would have a full cohort of specialists by now. Of course the shortsightedness of the present and past administrations leave us, as usual in the vulnerable position of being dependent on the charity of others and thus at the mercy of external powers like the United States. It’s so disheartening to witness the lack of vision of the people tasked with the country’s affairs knowing that it is unlikely to change. The culture of the present party in power has always been one of contempt and suspicion towards educated Antiguans. I remember Lester Bird referring to us as “nuff and edge-up”. Well here we are in the worse state we’ve been in in decades. Now we have to “know our place and do as we are told- or else”. Good luck Antigua 🙁

  9. I respect this man, he has good etiquette, but he is been ill advised to put the union on a political side of the Senate, he should give up that spot to the well eloquent and intelligent Franz defreitas to build the UPP up in the media and public perception.
