On Monday 9th May, 2022, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Antigua and Barbuda, His Excellency Jairo Clopatofsky Ghisays, formally presented his Letters of Credence to H.E. Sir Clare Roberts KCN QC, Governor-Generalโ€™s Deputy, in a brief ceremony.

Thereafter, he paid a courtesy call to the Honourable E. P. Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade, where Minister Greene thanked the Government of Colombia for their assistance with Antigua and Barbudaโ€™s disaster relief efforts as well as its offer of โ€˜Spanish as a Second Languageโ€™ online training course for public sector workers.

Both, in hopes of working together to build stronger relations, went on to have robust discussions in the areas of trade, food security and air travel to develop direct links with Colombia.

During his visit, Ambassador Ghisays also met with the Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, to discuss other areas of mutual benefit and expressed his special desire to support Antigua and Barbuda in social issues surrounding persons with disabilities.

Prime Minister Browne welcomed the proposition, noting that he endeavours to ensure inclusion as no one should be ostracized notwithstanding their abilities. Prime Minister Browne also noted that Colombia is poised to be a major trading nation in this hemisphere and aims to increase maritime links between both countries.

Ambassador Ghisays is also scheduled to meet with various Ministers of Government and senior officials before returning to the Embassy of Colombia in Kingston, Jamaica. Antigua and Barbuda and the Republic of Colombia established diplomatic relations in March, 1982.
