Antigua and Barbuda Upgraded to Tier 2 in US Trafficking in Persons Report

16

CABINET NOTES: Antigua and Barbuda has been upgraded to Tier 2 in the United States Government’s annual Trafficking in Persons Report, as announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The report evaluates countries’ efforts in combating human trafficking.

The country’s success can be attributed to the diligent work of the Trafficking In Persons Prevention Unit, consisting of four full-time staff members.

This unit, serving as the investigative arm of the Trafficking In Persons Prevention Committee (TPPC), has played a crucial role in addressing trafficking cases.

The comprehensive eight-page report is now available online for public viewing, highlighting the progress made in combating human trafficking in Antigua and Barbuda.

Breakdown of the Tier System:

  • Tier 1: Countries that fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards.
  • Tier 2: Countries that do not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance.
  • Tier 2 Watch List: Countries that do not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance and whose absolute number of victims of severe forms of trafficking is very significant or is significantly increasing.
  • Tier 3: Countries that do not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards and are not making significant efforts to do so .

  1. Well done to the 4 who are working so hard. Its a difficult task to achieve especially within the Caribbean. But by next audit, I am sure Antigua will be upgraded to fully compliant

    Congratulations

  2. 2013 report:
“Recommendations for Antigua and Barbuda: Vigorously prosecute, convict, and punish trafficking offenders, including officials complicit in human trafficking; consider ways to ensure human trafficking cases are handled in the high court
and treated as a serious crime; continue identifying and protecting trafficking victims by formalizing procedures to guide law enforcement, child welfare officials, and other
front-line responders in identifying victims and referring them to available services; and continue efforts to raise awareness among child protection specialists about child sex trafficking, underscoring that all prostituted children—regardless of movement—are considered trafficking victims by UN definitions.”

Congrats. Its good to see the US (state department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Person) finally giving us credit for the hard work our officials do. No high official (cabinet member) in the ABLP unlike under the former government owns an establishment that was believed to be involved in human Trafficking. Yes he claimed it was only beachwear but it was clear it went beyond that. The push is on to get to level 1.

  3. The local contractors are crying that this government doesn’t pay them for heavy duty equipment services, solid waste, PWD contractors no pay , maintenance services. It’s all work and no pay but for a chosen few.

  4. Congratulations Mr. PM on this your great achievement.
Hats off to you and your administration.

  5. Wooow so after 900 or more African immigrants brought in antigua by the prime minister airline a few months ago,and sent after to other islands with big profit, Antigua is promoted in fighting against human trafficking 🤣perfectly logic for this world

    • @Lila – The recent (US state department) report actually speaks about the Cameroon (Who in general did not come via Antigua Airline but Hi Fly ) refuges and notes the government efforts to properly deal with the situation (eg bringing in UNHCR). Note as well though the government had future plans to invest in Antigua Airlines, it was never finalized mostly due to the fact that AA was unable to meet the government’s requirements

    • It only shows how wrong you guys have it. An independent organization has reviewed this matter and commended the government for the manner in which they addressed this situation. But you guys can keep holding on to your straw. Five more years for this government.

      • pardon them
they love ugly and like to cry down country at any cost bai

      • Don’t worry, one day the straw will be broken and they’ll be holding on to the wind. Makes no sense to degrade the same county they’re hoping to govern. BUT NOT THEM AGAIN!!!!

  6. So we’re just gonna ignore the fact that they said thanks to the 4 people…….if it only takes 4 persons to to combat/fight or hatever u want to call what they’re doing aginst human trafficking in antigua the a big kudos to them…👌

  7. Am I reading this wrong, doesn’t it “upgraded”? How is this cause for celebrations and a pat on the back? Make it make sense people. A 1000 people were brought in, ask any Antiguan if they were told about this and if they agreed with this administration to just bring in ‘ so-called’ refugee’s? I doubt any voters were told about this, and if they were, did they agree to this foolishness that just played out and keep playing out right Infront there eyes. The truth is, these people were brought in under the auspecis as ‘ rich business tourist’ that’s what Antiguans were told , and that’s what they agreed to when the deal was announced with Antigua Airways. Even I who is a fair minded person, thought it was a good move, but was a bit concerned that is was done with Nigerians, and warned of such.

So it’s the lies and deception we want investigated, not the fact the Africans are coming to Antigua. The damn lies and all the fucking and waiving, cause trust me, where ever there is smoke, you best believe a fire is there!!!

So for you guys on here who are portraying this deal to be on the up an up, must be hypocrites or just down right sheeps who would just blindly follow their master or the cult!

    • Sad for you. Aryu love ugly. Is it Antigua that upgraded itself. Foolish! Send the money to Ukraine from Alfa Nero. Foolish!

  8. The term human trafficking been tossing around without any knowledge of its meaning. So here it is from the dictionary, and if there’s evidence based on what human trafficking is, then you should present it for persecution.
