Antigua and Barbuda to Reimpose Sales Tax on Tours and Attractions from June 1

6

The Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST) will be reinstated on tours, excursions, and attractions, effective June 1, 2024, as per the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).

Commissioner Ralph Warner clarified that the ABST Act never exempted these activities, despite a 2007 deferral. Suppliers exceeding the $300,000 annual registration threshold must register for ABST.

Reservations made after January 2, 2024, for activities postmarked June 1, 2024, will incur a 17% ABST charge, following the Cabinet’s decision on October 18, 2023.

  1. Antigua is a hard life. So you mean to say if I simple want to take my son ziplining to have some family fun, I have to pay an additional 17% on that? Jeeze!

  2. I would like the commissioner of IRD to tell the nation…Why did it took a change of government in 2014 to stop the illegal ABST concessions that the Sandals group was getting? Nobody at the IRD knew that the concessions was illegal? Was the concessions Legal because the UPP was the n power? Legal or illegal is not dependant on the government on power. While members of Parliament passed laws it is civil servants who are supposed to enforce the law not politicians. Too many puppets are in charge of government departments

  3. All these clowns can do is tax, tax, tax. The dunce DAWG has collected more money than any administration in the history of this country and after 10 years of mismanagement and self-enrichmemt this is his solution.
We had a chance to rid the country of this scourge and his cabal and we didn’t. Now we will pay dearly for this error
So sad, that the majority of us did our part but others failed to see the disaster. Now here we are. SMH

    • Why not live in a country that have no tax!!
Can you find one? I would prefer paying tax at my discretion, rather than paying tax every pay period with nothing to get back at the end of the year. Big rip off by the UPP during those days. Plus I understand they’re the ones who took the country into a 15% ABST. Is that so????

  4. These are the kinds of places that should be paying taxes because tourists can more afford to pay than locals. I never understood why so many things in tourism were tax free. I understand low taxes to attract investors, but completely tax free didn’t make sense to me.

  5. @concern.

Every person that is a elected,is representative of the people, and they accountable for how the country is running, but according to you and your dumbo ALP die-hards, Gatson Browne bares no responsibility in this f-up country that Antigua is today…and that’s where y’all Dumbo’s lose me with the rationals y’all put forth..

    Pure Dumbo’s a tell yah..smdh!!
