The government of Antigua and Barbuda has approved an increase in the national minimum wage from $9.00 to $11.50 per hour, effective 1 April 2026.
The decision follows consultations with the National Minimum Wage Committee and is part of efforts to improve income security for low-wage earners. Officials say the increase also moves the country closer to its target of $13.00 per hour, with further phased adjustments expected.
Cabinet said the measure is intended to ease the impact of rising living costs and promote a fairer distribution of economic gains.
The move comes as global economic pressures, including higher fuel and food prices, continue to affect small island states.
The administration of Gaston Browne said it will continue introducing policies aimed at protecting households, strengthening resilience and maintaining economic stability.

Everybody salary ago up but the people them on the job program can’t even get a raise
$11.50 per hour? So an individual working 40 hours per week. The gross pay would be $460 per week. Are they for real with that figure of $11.50? I look at prices in the Supermarkets in Antigua. That income is inefficient to the cost of living in Antigua.
We ready for elections. But we welcome the move
My wife is an RN, she is up in the $35-$40US per hour range, so put that in context with the value of the minimum wage in Antigua ($4us) a place where a can of milk is 4 times the rate of that same can of milk here in the US.
So you have people working a hole hour just to be able to purchase a can of milk, waw!
Yes folks, with all the billions that have been invested in this island over the past 25 years, even with Allen Sanford and his ill-gotten gains, Antigua is still a third world country under this present day regime.
So all this boasting that Antigua is some powerhouse island, is a damn lie..the proof is in the numbers..high high prices on goods, and very little money to work for..
These merchants have bought out this government big time..how the hell can you justify paying people these kinds of money working in these supermarkets, when the cost of living in so damn high?
They are just making millions, and this dumb/inept government just sit back and take their cut and do nothing for the voters.
No wonder all these foreigners and outsiders come to Antigua and do business and invest, because if there is easy money to be made off the labour of island people, it’s in Antigua.
We are damn idiots,a bunch of brainwashed idiots!!!
No everyone are going to be doctors and lawyers, so are the people to suffer because they are noble hard working people, and not swindlers in a suit?
