Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the 67^th Session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND)

The Director of the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP), Lt. Col. Edward Croft, will be attending the 67^th Session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) which will be held in Vienna, Austria from the 14^th-22^nd March 2024.

This meeting is the highest level of decision making on the management of drugs in the international community.

During the meeting several side events which seek to provide information on specific issues to this international audience, will be convened.

Antigua and Barbuda will participate in two of these events the first of which takes place on Monday 18^th March is entitled “The Role of Early Warning Systems (EWS) as an essential tool for Detecting and responding to Synthetic Drugs”.

The second titled, “The Importance of Developing National Drug Policies for an Effective Program Development” will be held on Wednesday 20^th March and is organized by Antigua and Barbuda with the support of the governments of Uruguay, Guyana, El Salvador, Canada and the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission of the Organisation of American States (ES-CICAD/OAS).

The Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) was established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) resolution 9(I) in 1946, to assist the ECOSOC in supervising the application of the international drug control treaties.

The mandate of the CND is to review and analyze the global drug situation, considering supply and demand reduction. It takes action through resolutions and decisions.
