Antigua and Barbuda is preparing for a busy summer tourism season, supported by increased airlift from Canada and a calendar of major cultural events.

WestJet will reintroduce its midweek service between Toronto Pearson International Airport and V.C. Bird International Airport for July and August 2026. The Wednesday flight will operate once weekly, complementing the airline’s year-round Sunday service.

Air Canada also runs a weekly Sunday flight, giving travellers additional options during the peak summer period.

Tameka Wharton, Antigua and Barbuda’s Director of Tourism for Canada, said the expanded schedule aligns with the islands’ seasonal appeal. She said the added service would give visitors more flexibility, particularly for short summer trips and off-peak travel deals.

The increased flights coincide with several major events, including Antigua Carnival, which runs from 25 July to 4 August. The festival features parades, music competitions and community celebrations.

Other highlights include the Urlings Seafood Festival on 9 August, and ANUCON on 16 August.

The islands will also host matches in the Caribbean Premier League from August into September.

Tourism officials say Antigua and Barbuda continues to position itself as a hub for regional travel, with connections to neighbouring Caribbean destinations.

Ms Wharton encouraged travellers to book early, citing competitive fares and describing the season as an opportunity for a “Christmas in July” getaway.

  1. This is great news for Antigua and Barbuda. More flights from Canada during the summer months can really help boost visitor arrivals during what is usually considered the slower season. With Carnival and other events happening, the timing makes perfect sense.

  2. Adding a midweek flight during Carnival season is a smart move. A lot of people from the diaspora travel home around that time, so having more flexibility with flights should make a big difference.

  3. I am more interested in getting new airlines to Antigua. Let’s work on COPA coming so we can have direct access to South America.
