POINTE XPRESS – Antigua and Barbuda’s economy displays continued growth as government revenues surge, as highlighted by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).

Deputy Commissioner Jermaine Jarvis reports a nearly $40 million increase in collections between January and June compared to the same period last year.

The rise, attributed primarily to increased ABST yields, points to robust economic activity and higher consumer spending on goods and services.

The overall collections of over $249 million for the first half of this year surpassed both budgeted expectations and the corresponding period in the previous year by $20 million and $39 million respectively.

  1. When you know what you’re doing, you just know what you’re doing….
    Real Economic Growth
Not the fakery like in 2007 under upp of 1 billion dollars in wastage.

  2. Come on! If people are paying off the chains for food and other items,of course the government revenues will increase. Basic Math, really. Exactly what robust economy? Has the unemployment rate improved? Yes, people are spending more because of the exorbitant cost of living, ridiculous charges on utilities when oil prices remain low, and on and on. The list is endless. With all this “robust” economy, are people’s lives getting any better? This is all throwing numbers at the dull and ignorant because anyone with a grade 9 education can pick this apart. Reminds me of Badu and Telequack bragging about revenue increases at the port when import duties were off the charts.
To ordinary Antiguans and Barbudans with morals and consciences, this is no good news. When pensioners and civil servants get the pre-election promise of raises, then publish it for all to see.

  3. Gaston Browne’s leadership is second to none. The numbers speak for themselves, no long speeches, just pure results 👌 😎 💪
    Labour government’s performance 👏

  4. If true, hopefully after the financial wastage of 40 years of Birdism and Browneism, Antigua & Barbuda will now witness the nationwide benefits that will see the completion of the water and road infrastructures; salaries, pensions and outstanding overtime paid, nures, doctors and the police receiving the equipment to do their jobs correctly.

And let’s not forget the spiralling out of control cost of living that’s causing untold misery up down and around the country.

Other Caribbean countries have done so, hopefully our Prime Minister will do the same and look out for his fellow citizens and the economy.

HIP HIP HURRAH – IF THIS FINANCIAL GROWTH BENEFITS THE COUNTRY. 🇦🇬

    HIP HIP HIP HURRAH …

    • … is 40 years of (Birdism and Browneism) ABLP financial wastage over???

Can Gassssston Browne ease Antigua’s woes at last?

      HIP HIP HIP …

Come on Gassssston, prove autochthonous Antiguans wrong.

    • Brixtonian you are all over the place. Just the other day you agree with a writer that Antigua and Barbuda was Broke. Now you are asking the broke government to share the money. And by now you should know that inflation is worldwide, and that this government has nothing to do with the rising shipping cost and food prices from overseas. That is why it is called imported inflation. Your smart King Lovell suggested we lower the import taxes in order to fight inflation. But he fails to understand that we are in a single market economy and certain taxes are set across the region. And if you collect less taxes, it will also mean that you put other services in jeopardy. For you will have no money to pay for them. And then you will complain that roads are not fixed, pensions are not paid, garbage and dead dogs are not collected. And he fails to see that we do have a large number of goods in the basket of no ABST.

      • I thoroughly enjoy it when you respond to anything that I write Sideline, because I believe you are briefed by ABLP members in some way or form.

I’m not sure how much, but there’s definitely some sort of connection.

Brixtonian will keep pushing your buttons, because getting under your skin actually does work. Lovely!

You don’t like it, the die-hard supporters don’t like it, but best of all the ABLP doesn’t like it because the 40-odd years financial wastage of Birdism and Browneism has been EXPOSED.

Bring your nonsensical witterings – I love it boss 😁

        • You mean anytime you write nonsense I put you straight and you cannot handle that. No rebut to what I said at all. Bu that is OK. As I said before I will not leave this space for you guys to just run your mouth and spread all sort of lies. I’ll hit you with the truth and shut you up.
How come you said nothing about the almost 700 patients that had cataract surgery for FREE at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. The hospital you guys claimed had no anesthesia.

Not even this news media house had the decency to write about it.
I guess good news doesn’t sell.

          • Don’t talk to me about not responding Sidey.

Myself and many others were looking for responses from the likes of you – and the other acolytes – when both the Nigerian airline fiasco was in full flight (pun intended 😁), and you also hid yourself away when Kelvin Shugy Simon outplayed the ABLP by his brilliant resignation move; and how can anyone forget about your disappearing act, when lives were sadly lost at sea when the Africans were trying to leave Antiguan shores.

Oh, and not withstanding, how can we forget about your invisibility on the broken promises on paying pensions and salaries by Gaston Browne.

            Again, pure silence from you!

Now let me read what kind of cock 🐓 and bull 🐃 story you going to come up with – I could do with a good laugh.

I can read you like a book.

    • Why not compare this government’s 9 years in power, verses the previous government 10 years. What does Antigua has to show from 2004- 2014? 2014 to 2023 is only 9 years. If you’re willing to open your eyes with sense of honesty, you’d be able to see the difference.

      • And if you are also “willing to open your eyes” @ Concern, you’ll also find that the ABLP had 40-odd years to make Antigua & Barbuda an economic powerhouse with all its infrastructure properly constructed and in place.

Why do you guys CONTINOUSLY ignore those wasted Birdism and Browneism – 40 – years?

  5. I-N-F-L-A-T-I-O-N Antiguans don’t be fooled by numbers with no sound analysis. This is just a reflection of how much you’re being squeezed at the grocery, gas station and everywhere you do business.

  6. So why the country so run down if revenue coming in? So government have money and sit back and see hardship? Why the bridge in St. Mary’s South and Anchorage Road taking so long? Also please use some of the extra money to fix the roads in the South. The country need to see their tax dollars put to good use. If you have more money, do more for the people.

    • Maybe it’s the same reason the previous administration didn’t fix them. This administration met the same issues you have concerns about in 2014. They were there for the entire 10 years of the previous administration. Ask yourself, why weren’t they delt with?

  7. It raining $$$$$$$$ in Antigua. At customs it’s $30M and IRD SAY $40M…With hundreds of vehicles imported I wonder how much Transport board quoting…$100M. Asking father God to ease up on the pouring of $$$$$$$ and send rain instead. They say you get what you pray for. The monies from the super yacht staying too long to come, might never come.
