Antigua and Barbuda is committed to strengthening ties with the European nation of Austria.
Those sentiments were expressed Tuesday when Foreign Affairs Minister, E.P Chet Greene, met with the Austrian ambassador-designate to Antigua and Barbuda, Stefan Weidinger,
during a courtesy call.
Greene used the opportunity to invite the Austrian diplomat to convey to his government Antigua and Barbuda’s desire on the issue. Additionally, he is asking Austria to consider the
possibility of opening an embassy in St. John’s. The minister said the government will gladly donate the lands upon which the embassy will be constructed.
Minister Greene noted that the government is interested in cooperating with Austria in the areas of tourism, diplomatic training, renewable energy, and disaster resilience/ management Antigua and Barbuda is also reviewing an offer by Austria to help with establishing an OECS office in Vienna.
Greene gave an undertaking to raise this matter with his Cabinet colleagues.
