The Antigua and Barbuda Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, held a press briefing today, to present the 2024 mid-year tourism statistics and highlight key marketing initiatives.
Overall Tourism Growth:
Antigua and Barbuda welcomed 176,665 stay-over visitors between January and June 2024.
This represents a 15% increase in stay-over arrivals compared to the same period in 2023.
Comparing with 2019 (the best year previously), this is a 10% increase from 161,434 visitors.
Occupancy comparisons provided by the Antigua Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association – ABHTA for the first half of the year, were also reflecting growth when compared to the same period in 2023.
Event Impact โ T20 World Cricket Cup:
June 2024 recorded the highest ever month-over-month growth with a 42% increase in stay-over visitors.
Notable increases in visitors were seen in countries participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup matches in Antigua to include India, Australia and South Africa.
Cruise Tourism:
Cruise visitor arrivals from January to June 2024 showed a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Yachting:
Similarly, the positive impact of the yachting sector to the economy was noted during the briefing.
Marketing Initiatives:
Marketing activities in the key source markets of the USA, UK/Europe, Canada and the Caribbean were highlighted. New events, introduced to the destination calendar of events also featured during the presentation.
