Antigua and Barbuda Renews Request for Scotland Yard’s Help in Crime Investigations

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed that his administration is renewing its request for external assistance to bolster local law enforcement efforts in investigating recent homicides.

During his weekly Browne and Browne Show on Saturday, the Prime Minister revealed that the government had previously sought support from Scotland Yard to aid in solving outstanding murder cases, including the recent tragic killing of nine-year-old Chantel Crump, and is now pushing to expedite the process.

“I know that the Ministry of Legal Affairs, with the assistance of Foreign Affairs, had written to Scotland Yard to assist us with two females who were killed sometime last year. I’m told—I just followed up today with the Attorney General—that there may have been some delays. I am not aware of precisely what created this delay, but I’ve asked him to kindly renew the request to get Foreign Affairs to renew the request and to try and get them here as soon as possible because we want to demonstrate to the Antiguan public that we’re utilizing all resources available to us, including external assistance.”

Browne noted that the Ministry of Legal Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had written to Scotland Yard seeking investigative support for two homicide cases from last year. However, he acknowledged delays in the process and has now directed the Attorney General to renew the request and ensure the timely arrival of foreign experts.

“We want to demonstrate to the Antiguan public that we are utilizing all resources available to us, including external assistance, to ensure justice is served,” Browne stated. He added that his government is committed to restoring a sense of security and preventing further violent crimes.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of comprehensive investigative strategies, noting that law enforcement authorities have been actively pursuing leads and have made significant progress in recent cases.

In light of increasing public concern over crime and safety, the government is also considering additional measures to enhance police capabilities, including the acquisition of cadaver dogs to assist in locating missing persons and hidden crime scenes. Browne reiterated that his administration remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining Antigua and Barbuda’s reputation as a safe country.

This latest push for external assistance comes amid heightened public calls for swift justice, with some citizens advocating for tougher crime-fighting strategies and harsher sentencing for violent offenders. While Browne expressed skepticism over calls for the reinstatement of the death penalty, he affirmed that the government has already strengthened sentencing laws to ensure perpetrators face severe consequences.

As the government moves forward with its renewed request for international investigative support, law enforcement agencies continue to appeal to the public for any information that may assist in solving ongoing cases.

  1. Do you think Scotland Yard has people sitting around waiting to be called overseas given the amount of crime in London? This is not 1991 where they go out there and only 2 village boys go away for killing the Comptroller of Customs. The boys Armstrong and Welch gave up the “Rich man” name and nothing came of it, so no thanks. This is a repeat of that very same situation.

  2. How many times do we have to hear that you are calling in Scotland Yard? We’ll believe it when they show up.

  3. In this perfunctory manner Gaston so call Scotland yard request, while you tie the hands of local police dictating to them how to do their work , putting them to carry out political vigilante against the barbudans to take their lands to give to PLH and other rich white folks, the police are armed for war with Uzi m16 against the barbudans babies as Shantel age to elderly barbudans are under police and military surveillance and patrol to prevent them from swimming in what is now white areas demarcated by buffer zone as in Israel and was and still is in south Africa, how come we black people brain are so harvested that we only carry out white interest? like been a coconut brown outside and white inside, I can’t believe at my age I am learning black people are not free up to this day, our so call leaders which are indeed dealers continue the neocolinial agenda, set a fools.

  5. Problem is when Scotland yard reach and the #1 suspect is no longer on the island and can’t be found

  6. Maybe if he had really requested Scotland Yard, some of these crimes wouldn’t have happened, but then, terms of reference would’ve kicked in and prevented them from being very effective.

  7. No way she drove the same car used to abduct the child when they got rid of chantal body. Who would do that in a silver car everyone looking out for ??

  8. Can the GVT invest in the Police Force and Defence Force so that we won’t need to “REQUEST HELP”!?!!?

Why is it our Police Officers don’t have an electronic database and are STILL WRITING IN BOOKS TO STORE POLICE RECORDS?!? It’s 2025!!!!!

  9. Might be too little, too late. Forensics and other evidentiary materials probably already lost or contaminated. That is why I insist on going forward, we must begin to prioritize our safety and security. Too much going on in Antigua and Barbuda and we all tend to drop our guards until the next horrific event happens.

  10. Two young ladies killers are still out there. Angela did not work alone so other potential killers/ human traffickers are still out there. Let’s be for real rn. This is the life we are going to continue living? We watching series where they spend forever on a case. Why can’t Antigua police do the exact same? Lazy much!! Justice for the three girls. Yall choose to continue the case after these females would’ve been buried? Wow

  11. Hmmm. I’m pretty sure that if Chantel’s murderer was not found she would’ve been a case like these two teenagers. I can still hear the justice cries for Achazia but Antiguan Government don’t care

  12. I remember last year a young boy was missing and today, I haven’t heard anything further about him. I think the young boy was also a student of the Five Island Primary School.

  13. Notice if a one a them family they would a done get a who e be. Them would a done get to the bottom of this. And all who in the ring of sex trafficking in Antigua. Everyone would a done get lock up. Long time

  14. I thought the acting Commissioner said on ABS when Scotland Yard came the could not provide them with any relevant information so they could not offer any help

  15. But come to think of it Gaston said they requested help from Scotland yard before and they weren’t taken seriously by Scotland yard, I s it that they are well known to the Scotland yard? The inference that criminal and the law are not friends, ron saunders that was inquired into ostensibly robbing Antigua tax payers at WIOC is now ambassador. I bull garnie come and report someone raping a woman, the police will ignore him knowing he is the one with such capacity.

  16. Asot Michael need to be added to that list all these people are working for some one bigger than them.

  17. Why New Scotland Yards? Why not the FBI? The FBI is both a law enforcement and Intelligence agency. Scotland Yard is not.
