Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda recently shared updates on the progress of LIAT 2020, highlighting significant developments and investments made towards the airline’s operations.

During a recent statement, Prime Minister Browne stated, “My understanding is that they’ve approved the aircraft. They’re now looking at the internal operation manuals, and those should be approved hopefully within the upcoming days.”

He further disclosed that the government of Antigua and Barbuda has allocated $33 million in escrow to purchase three aircraft from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

These funds have been remitted to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) for the purchase.

The Prime Minister emphasized the financial commitment, stating, “The funds to purchase three aircraft are in escrow, $33 million. We will have to spend another $27 million to get those planes up to scratch.”

He expressed optimism about the timeline, indicating that LIAT 2020 is expected to have at least two aircraft operational by next weekend, with a third one following later in the month. This would enable the airline to commence operations and provide connectivity for Caribbean people.

Reflecting on the journey and challenges faced, Prime Minister Browne remarked, “We stood alone with LIAT for the last four years, and the fact now that we are close to literally launching LIAT 2020, I’m very pleased with the progress that we have made.”

He acknowledged the resilience and foresight required to navigate through challenges and ensure the project’s success, terming it as a project of resilience for the nation.

Regarding previous opposition and skepticism, especially in salvaging LIAT, the Prime Minister expressed understanding and indicated a need for collaboration and cooperation to provide essential air connectivity for the region.

He expressed hope that stakeholders would recognize the importance of investing in LIAT 2020 to support the region’s transportation needs.

  1. $33ml + 27mil is $60mil, which is 30% of $200mil. Huuumm.

So by those numbers, $200mil will be spent on getting Lait up and running, is that what you’re saying PM, because that’s what you said was the agreement, Antigua has a 30% equity in this deal.

I hope you have your figures right me PM…smdh.

    • @ ISLANMAN

Continue shaking your head until it drop off. There nothing in your head anyways. DAMN DUNCE.

      • @ ISLANMAN among others question the deal.
So if those who question the numbers are Dunces.
Then explain why? Who is the Dam DUNCE here?
Every time Gaston, Max Hurst or the acting Chairman issue figures about LIAT the figures change. Why?
The figure don’t add up. $200 Million invested and Antigua gets 30%
Maybe you and the other non-Dunces like you can explain Air Peace promises 2 aircrafts then 3 aircrafts non of which has arrived while LIAT is being certified, but AIR PEACE gets 70 % ownership of LIAT
        The deal makes no sense.
As usual when Gastonites can not defend the corruption they turn to insults.

      • @Fern. I guarantee you that my math is better than you and Gatson Brownes, I guarantee you that. Refute the very claims your PM put forth joker, it’s his words, don’t come after me. But I guess you have nothing better to than trolling those who don’t see eye to eye with your buffoon of a so called leader in Gatson Browne. I live my own life, fool, and have done very well for myself, so I guess I don’t have to sing and dance for my super like you, so who’s the dunce?

  2. Lovely to see you going ahead with plans while released ex workers still are without severance…. Shame on you a “labore” labeled party who has NO interest in the laborers… your administration makes me SICK!

    • Don’t just blame Gaston and his administration… Where was the Unions and there attorneys?
The UNIONS failed the workers too.
Thet should have taken the administrator and the bankruptcy judge to judiciary to remove the bankruptcy judge from the case that should have sued the Administrator separately.

    • LIAT forever owned by the wanted (in the US) African. I had more respect for my fellow Antiguan until this deal went down.
