Antigua and Barbuda Commits to Eradicating Crime: Prime Minister Outlines New Strategies
Prime Minister Gaston Browne declared a firm commitment to eradicating crime in Antigua and Barbuda during a recent address on the nation’s 43rd Independence Day.
Addressing the rise in violent incidents, Browne emphasized that the government will not relent in its efforts to ensure public safety.
“We are determined to take the fight to the criminals until they get the message and reform their ways,” Browne stated, asserting that crime and violence will not pay.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to confront criminal activities head-on and highlighted the necessity of community involvement in these efforts.
Browne acknowledged that while the country continues to have one of the lowest crime rates in the region, recent violent robberies have raised concerns among residents.
“We must ensure that our homes, businesses, schools, and streets are safe,” he said, expressing the government’s commitment to public safety.
The Prime Minister also called on individuals involved in criminal activities to seek alternatives. “There are ample employment opportunities in sectors such as construction and hospitality—so there is no justification to rob and kill,” he stressed, emphasizing the need for economic opportunities to combat crime.
In response to Browne’s call, local community leaders are working to strengthen collaboration between residents and law enforcement. They are advocating for programs aimed at engaging youth and steering them away from gang involvement.
Browne noted, “Our collective success depends on more than just government action; it requires the effort of every citizen, every business, and every worker.”
The government is expanding educational and vocational training programs to provide young people with the skills needed for stable employment.
Browne remarked, “These initiatives are part of our unwavering investment in our people,” highlighting the administration’s focus on addressing the root causes of crime.
Many residents believe that increased patrols and community engagement from law enforcement are crucial in deterring crime and enhancing public confidence in safety measures.

The real and true criminals are those involved in insider trading, #BOBOL, forgery, discrimination in the various branches of your government. Let’s begin in those areas.
What the PM is saying is starting to sound good, the way I would instruct him to speak pertaining to crimes. Admitting the problem, letting them know he is working diligently on the problem. But he left out something vital, teaser. Letting the public know some of the methods that is being considered or already employed, not in detail to tip off criminals but just enough to bring hope and faith.
Separately, we need to invest tremendously in the youths as I described in previous comments. Sports, gaming, access to rolemodels and celebrities (the good role models that will stand up for you and treat you fair), music class, gaming and coding class, experience in fields youth admire after school programs, arts and crafts, swimming, kayaking, boating, sporting events where students can win scholarships and money etcetera.
My office now have the ability to request employee greencard or work authorization, where students could travel and follow me for a week or month (similar to state college’s job practice). This is something I am interested in participating in for Antigua and Barbuda students, maybe at the level of college). Students interested in US law or criminology or other social sciences. I am pretty sure other businesses in which I got the owner their greencard based on advance degree or exceptional ability would accept such student for a job practice in the US for a month or so.
It is time we advance everything in Antigua and Barbuda.
